By the way, whoever is paying $12,000 for a funeral must be getting a gold casket and paying for a funeral plot in Manhatten!!

Last year I planned my mom's funeral ahead of time and it was a total of $8,000 for a very nice funeral.

While I was at the funeral home I mentioned that they had handled my dad's funeral back in 1972 and the lady went and got me a copy of the receipt for it. I think it was either $300 or $800!!!! Of course he already had a casket that the funeral home in Alaska had handled along with the embalming, etc. But even if you double that cost for the two funeral homes what a deal compared to today.

Now we have to pay for morticians fancy cruises!!

My wife desires to be cremated rather than buried. She does not even want a casket & body viewing at the funeral or before.

This has bothered me greatly for the following reasons

1. I am old enough that it is ingrained in me that Christians traditionally are
buried and pagans / heatherns burned their dead. (I realize there is no
Bible for this ingrained thinking, only tradition, as Old Paths and some
others have pointed out with scripture that refers to ASHES as well as
DUST.

2. I think that viewing the body and the body at a funeral helps the family
say goodbye.

3. If my wife is cremated I will not have her buried beside me and when
people see my grave and tombstone it is going to look like I died a
single, lonely man! I always pictured the dual headstone.

I know that I will abide by my wife's wishes no matter how uncomfortable I am with her choices but I appreciate the comments on here that have helped me believe there is nothing wrong with what she wants.

Buy the tombstone and bury HER ashes next to you and your other wife.

While this is not cause for divorce, it may be worthy of a (white) lie..... sure honey - as you wish... J/K!

It's completley selfish and disrespectful to the departed.

It's a slap in God's face

LOL!!!! So actually I may be thanking her for keeping the kids from having the awkward decison of burying dad by the old wife or newer wife.

BTW - I have promised my wife that shoudl she precede me in death I will not date until the funeral.

Do you want your loved ones bodies to rot underground? I could be more graphic like you were but I won't.

Arguements can be made against cremation but yours does not make sense as the super hot flames consuming a body and leaving ash is a lot "nicer" than what happens to a body buried in the ground.

let nature takes it course that was God's design but the least we can do is send them out with some class for heaven's sake. most of the caskets are sealed air tight
