i think you are right on both counts. and there is a simple reason for it.
hetrosexual men find lesbianism erotic.
it is really that simple.
because hetro-men find lesbianism erotic, our culture which is centered on erotisim (think "sex sells") we find cultural accpetence for lesbianism.
We even find cultrual pressure on hetrosexaul females to act like lesbians in public. we see hetro-women in entertaiment kissing etc.
why would a lesbian feel pressure to self segregate when they are accpeted?
two boys kissing however, is just not socially accepted.
(disclaimer to the reading public, this is not an attempt to argue that it should be socially acceptable for boys to kiss...)
