Which one? Out of all of them only one?

Oh, yeah, I forgot those with facial hair and sports... Although sports is not so much a standard. The youth played sports at camp. Facial hair wasn't that much of a standard either and I never "really" believed in it, although I was close. There's another standard besides those two that I let go.
Also, the whole idea of denominatinalism was a great thing to be free from after leaving the UPC.
GOD BLESS!

16-1/2 years out, but I have fond memories of UPC, so I'm probably not the one you want posting on this thread!! Having said that, I'm glad that we're independent now. UPC was good; this is better.

Lemme get this straight..
You got saved in the UPC, but now you say " " ??
Was it really that bad in the UPC?
Good grief. You're making it sound like you got delivered from the Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses.

Been gone about 5 years and pretty much believe the exact opposite of what the UPC teaches.
That's all.

I could/should simply attribute it to a sovereign move of God but I expect you want more than that.
Happened over many years(about 12) and a slow change in my thinking. Ironically, my late father challenged me not to be afraid to go where the Scripture would lead me and I have done that....though some here would disagree.

Amen to that one! I hate the separation of denominations!
I work with Native Americans and I love it because you are free to worship however your conscious dictates! Talk about love and respect! And most people I knew in the UPC would call them heathens or devil worshipers.
So sad people are so judgmental and they have not even taken the time to walk with these people.
Even at work or at conference it is tradition to open with a prayer. I've heard many people pray in Jesus name and not one person has ever said something. Others pray saying "Creator". I like that too. He is our Creator.

I don't know, it's sort of hard to explain having just left. I do feel like leaving was a deliverance for me. And my own UPC church and UPC district had this spirit about it, a kind of superfiscial, shallow spirit that I couldn't stand. I remember the offerings being terrible; how people were hit up for money, how if a church didn't give enough to SFC the ministers would gossip about it. Some of the offerings at the youth rallies were such a joke the reverance was completely taken out of the act of giving. The ministry was proud and pompous. The clothing was flashy and outlandish (amoung the youth and ministry)... pink shirts on men, long suit jackets on men, splits up the thigh in girls skirt, girls with the high up boots- oh AND FISH NET STOCKINGS... It was funny too, the guys were wearing the pink shirts, and the girls were all loud and masculine and half of them (I'm speaking figuratively in half of course) wanted to preach! It was as if the gender roles were confused! Then there was Wayne Francis and his foolishness at Youth Congress... And then there was Youth Congress all together! And then the music in church started going charismatic and we stopped using instruments and started using Hillsong sountracks and we sang along with the CD! AHHHH!!! There was the crazy dating games all the youth played and people that everytime you turned was dating someone different. There was just all of this junk--- it is good to be out!
GOD BLESS!

Glad the Lord delivered you Brother!
You know what bugs me thinking about it- how the pastors or the ministry have to sit up high and in front of everyone. I think that is wrong.
My church now has the music up there but the pastors worship and greet everyone and they have such great ministering spirits!
