Hey dont worry until I was 13 I had never been anywhere other than Mexico. We went with our church on a choir trip. Other than that I was 14 before I ever left the country again.
I had to chuckle at this post. I don't think I left the state I was born in until I was 14 or 15!

Well we live in Texas so mexico wasnt that huge of a trip. And considering my dad traveled the world continually with his job I had always been offered to go on certain trips with he and my mom but when I was younger traveling wasnt that appealing

I have always wanted to travel to other countries. Unfortunately, I've only made it to canada. But I've been to almost every state in the union.......just lack three or four. Maybe this summer I can make it to those!

There are actually a lot of states I havent visited (mainly way north) but the one I want to go visit the most would likely be Maine. I would love to go there but have not had the chance and dont see it happening in the near future. Traveling doesnt happen a lot when you have 4 kids!
I am taking Jeanie, David to London, England on our way to India for our annual missions trip in January 2008, we will be there on a Saturday, Sunday and Monday, flying to India on Tuesday.
Any ideas of what to see, what to eat, recommendations on where to stay?
I am budgeting about 800-1000 for the 3 days we are there.
So we are on a budget, so I can't splurge.
On the list is the British Museum, Westminister Abbey, Imperial War Museum, Tower of London, taking a Walk tour, etc. Any others ideas, I have no idea what kinds of food we should try. So input from those that have been would be helpful.
Thanks in Advance
Well, we ate a lot of Indian food in London, but since you're headed there, you probably don't want that!!!
We actually ate in the pubs alot. Lots of selection and cheaper prices. They are not like pubs in the U.S.; they don't even feel like a bar - it's just what they call them. They are everywhere!
Be sure to see Picadilly area; there are street artists and performers all over the place; it's really fun. The greatest thing we did was to see the bunkers where Churchill stayed during the war. They sealed them up and left them just like they were when the war ended, so you can see his bed, his phone where he called FDR, the maps on the wall that he used, etc. It's really interesting.
We also went to Windsor Castle one day and we all loved that. The Tower of London is an amazing place to go too.
I see that Sherri seconded my motion about seeing the underground War Rooms that Churchill used and the adjacent new Churchill Museum.
She also mentioned Windsor Castle which I had forgot to put on my list. It is really cool and not that far out of London.
If you ever go in August or September they actually have Buckingham Palace open during that time for tours while the royal family is at their Scottish estate. It will give your wife decorating ideas if you ever move into a home with 20 or 30 foot ceilings and you have an unlimited amount of money for gold gilded furniture and paintings!
We were excited to see the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, but after about a half hour, we got bored and left!! It seemed to be the same thing over and over; my kids were ready to move on.
We went in May and it was a little chilly even then. January will be very cold, and there is so little sunshine, it seems colder than it really is. Take warm clothing!
I just want to warn you that we found NOTHING cheap in London. The food was outrageous everywhere, except the pubs were the cheapest. Our hotel was pretty expensive too, so I can't help much in that area. We stayed never Grosvenor Square (sp.), which was an easy walk to Buckingham and Bond Street Station to jump on the tube and go all over London.
We went to London and Paris in APRIL - it rained. What a a coincidence.
