At first this was painful because I had 24 yrs. of married life in that home, but as I started clearing it out, selling, giving away and keeping only what I needed it got easier.
My daughter and I moved into an apt. and I adjusted quickly. THEN, she went off to college in St. Louis. Just last summer I made another move to a better apt. and everything in this apt. is about ME.......I have a guest room decorated like I want it. Even in the garage both my kids have their "stuff" now and I'm not storing their memory boxes.
I'm happy.

You know Renda, this is making me think about when I first came back home, I was the same way. I had very little and it was empowering to start all over again with only the things that I wanted.
OA was only wrong about one thing and that is that I had not had any big upsets in my life, but he was still right in a way, because it has been 10 years and things have been really smooth and good for quite a while now.
I think maybe because of having so little when I came back I have tried to hold on to more than I should have, and then when life started shifting again, I was overwhelmed.
Another thing, which needs to be a thread all on it's own probably, is that it is starting to look more and more like my daughter is going to wind up living on the other side of the world. And I am freaking out about it.

On all the organizing shows- they say start out with 3 categoies when you start to clean out- a throw away box, a give away box and a keep box. Make sure the keep box is the smallest. You have gotten some real good suggestions. When you get the courage to begin you will find it very liberating to clean the clutter up. I speak from experience.

This is a big part of hanging onto things for me. I've lost most of what I've had a few times and that's a kind of scary feeling. Now I'm making the choice to start over, as good of a thing as that is, it's bringing up a lot of emotions for me.

I agree with you.
It is great to be able to bring something like this here where you know (at least you hope) you wont be judged, and you have a wide variety of people to give you input.

Right! And I have gotten very good at avoidance lately.

It isn't so bad!
Actually, one person taught me years & years ago that we as human beings thrive on order!
Clean the house & arrange things in place & get a routine going, it will then reflect itself in our spiritual walk & we will have peace no matter the situation.
