I don't know how to phrase this in such a way that it doesn't sound like I am being casual, flippant or apathetic.
One of the turning points in my spiritual life was when I realized that only God knows my experiences, what I've been through, how it's shaped me. Only God knows my heart, my emotions, my struggles. Only God knows my thoughts, my mind, my motivations. So because only God knows all those things about me. God is the only one who is at all capable of truly judging me. So other people can try to judge me, based on what they see, or what they think the words I say mean. But their judgments are faulty, based on incomplete information.
This works both ways. I may have ideas and opinions about others, but I need to remember, that I have limited information. Are they saved? Are they going to heaven? I used to stress about that so much! It's such a relief to hand that back over to God where it belongs. He knows them, and loves them, he's looking out for them.
So what is my responsibility then? To continue to follow God in my own relationship with Him. I let Him direct my actions, my conversations, and my life. (Which sometimes means talking about him with others, loving the unlovable, and forgiving those who wrong me, etc. )
The point is, it's not my job to save them. It's not my responsibility to get them to heaven. My job is to love God, and love my neighbor. The rest is up to Him.
