Re: Why do you wear makeup, if you do?

I did not start wearing make up until i was 34, which was just a few years ago. For many years I didn't do only because I didn't want to be talked about. Now I do it because it makes me feel better about myself and the older I get the less I care what other people think!

At first I quit wearing makeup and "big" jewelry. Later I stopped wearing jewelry altogether. I thought I looked really dead without makeup at first, but I actually got my color back naturally without it after a couple of months.

Anyway, just because that happened to me I don't think it is for everyone. That doesn't keep me from wondering why others DO wear makeup and jewelry. I would not dare ask my friends this question because I think they would think I was judging them and just give a defensive answer.

Here nobody knows who I am, so nobody has to "prove" anything to me. I am hoping that some of you can help me understand why anyone wears makeup and jewelry.

All I know is that I was wearing it for all the wrong reasons and it was offensive to God. I would like to start wearing makeup again, especially since I am looking older every day. So for me to wear makeup would be wrong. God intended for me to look old because I am getting old. He could have easily not made men and women to look old. My friends seem to not like how God made me because they think I should wear makeup. :-/ I don't want to offend them with why I don't wear makeup and make them think that I think I am better than them.

Also, why don't men wear makeup?
I am not entirely well-versed in this area, but I can tell you my observations of my wife. She wears the standard foundation stuff when going to work. She only puts on extra makeup (blush, lipstick, whatever else) when she is going out somewhere with girlfriends.

Because their friends didn't tell them they should wear makeup.

No one ever told them "any ole barn needs painting sometime".

Evidently no one ever told them how plain they looked without makeup.

Did you ever tell your "friends" what they SHOULD do and not do, as adults!
I've had "friends" when I was younger tell me how much better I would
look with makeup. (suggesting I was unacceptable as I was.)
After years have come and gone and I see some of their lives, I'm glad I didn't
listen to their "friendly advice". I have been SO blessed in SO many ways. Not
to say I haven't had trials, tests, hills and valleys, But I have been and continue
to be SO blessed!

Prov.17:17, in part.
A friend loveth at all times,..." A true friend, that is!

Blessings,

How does wearing make up determine if one is blessed or not, Sis. Falla?

Re: Why do you wear makeup, if you do?

My 57 year old face is beginning to lose it's tone - so i use Clinique Almost Makeup - has sunscreen in it and just a tint of color - so I don't look like I just got out of bed! little mascara and I'm good to go! I'm a "60's" kinda girl, and have pretty much always been a "natural" - before and after I was saved and sanctified!

Warrior,

Did you read the bolded from the post I was responding to! Her friends
thought she should wear makeup.
It could have been anything. What if
someone told your children they would feel better IF they took drugs! Or
drank alcohol, or smoked, etc. If they have been beat down to not have
a good self-image, they might give in to peer pressure.

Look at the question about men wearing makeup. Men have not had some
telling them they would look better if they wore makeup. Or other things
like that.

I haven't grown up feeling I was lacking, because of godly parents who
taught and modeled for we eleven children. Then after I received the Holy
Ghost at age 18, and married just shy of 20, I have not felt I was lacking.
I have felt secure in HIM! This has intensified as I grew older. We are com-
plete in Him, which is the head of all principality and power.

Don't feel it is my place to tell other adults what they should do or not do.
They have the choice and rightfully so.
Just because of MY story, I am not
saying others are NOT BLESSED at all. THis just happened to be the subject
of the thread.

My late father said a lot of wise sayings as a godly father, husband and a
pastor (of over 30 yrs.) One of those saying was, "Adults do NOT like to be
treated like children! They will RESENT it"!
That's wisdom. That will preach!!!!

If we wait until our children are grown to start telling them what we want
them to do or not do, we've waited TOO long! They will resent it!
If we neglect our children's spiritual training until they are grown and then
expect the preacher to straighten them out, we've waited TOO long. They
will resent it! We were "trained up in the way we SHOULD go. We were then
and continue to be blessed. We were blessed by those who went before us.
"The blessings of the children lie in the obedience of the parents" (quoted
by Jill Briscoe)

Prov. 20:7 NKJV
7 The righteous man walks in his integrity;
His children are blessed after him.

Re: Why do you wear makeup, if you do?

I wear green, brown, and olive clothes because it brings out my natural eye and hair color. Could any of you imagine me wearing green and brown makeup? Well, I did when I was in the Army. *sticks out tongue and runs*
