I actually prefer my wife with longer hair, without even addressing the whole "cut" versus "uncut" junk. But she likes it short because it is "so much easier to take care of!".
I will not MAKE her wear her hair in particular way -for one, because I feel it is no where NEAR salvational in nature.
I think she would go to a UPC church if I decided to go when we arrive in AZ, but I do not believe for an instant that she would start looking like a stereotypical UPC gal.
I know people who "wear shorts and go to movies" and are still in the UPC... AND in that area.
It all depends on the Church. The Tulsa groups reach is far far shorter than some would have us to believe.
When I'm in an optimistic mood I'm in complete agreement here with you, RW. I do hope that the UPC continues to "change" to become what it once was. That is, a place where a fervent relationship with Christ is emphasized and there's not too much jawing about other people's underwear and what not.

Oh my.....the voice of reason has returned...woohooo

Just curious, is this a problem for your wife, the other church members, or the pastor?
We attend a UPC church. I do not follow standards when not at church functions. My husband wears shorts to the gym and when running on the trail by our house. He goes to movies.
We are blessed in that no one from church lives in our town, so we don't run into them. Also our pastor doesn't preach a clothesline message; he teaches relationship and not to judge others.
I am not in ministry and if asked, would decline due to the fact that I know I don't line up with what the church believes. Would you be intending to be in ministry or just in attendance?
My wife has no problems with my standards. She is fine with it. She seemed shocked when I told her I would return with her. She asked if that is what I want and I told her I want a healthy and happy family. Somethings are more important than egos or whatever. I did feel weird at first. I felt God lead me to this other church and that going back to the UPC church was going against him, but the truth is that #1 come family #2 comes ministry so I took the high road and if God curses me cause I want to have a great family life them I guess He will, but I am confident that He is happy with me making this choice for my family.
