He pushed, not just the US, but the world into collaberative peace-keeping efforts. He was a master diplomat - without rival.

well, he was RIGHT on the points Dan has listed. I wish he were a better diplomat and had avoided thed treaty of Versailles.

but this is the point where I take some issue with WW, the ideals were somewhat flawed and those flaws run the UN today. Count me among those who see the UN as an abject failure.

but on balance I agree Woodrow Wilson ranks pretty high up the list of 20th century presidents.

Maybe the first "real" Moderen era president?

Please dont take the comment about Carter to be a reflection on Wilson.

I cant remember the author. I will have to hunt it down.

its about the impact of technology on society. It goes to the heart of your comments about a guy born in the 1850s.

What were the flaws?

I suppose my admiration of Wilson stems from the fact that he was probably the first American President to see our place in the world as it should be.

He did not view America as the world's policeman, he saw us as the world's intellectual, political and peace-keeping role model.

He was an original. No American president had ever espoused the ideals Wilson did, and he espoused them from a very early age.
