For those as nerdy as me here is the link to the slip opinion.

http://www.scotusblog.com/wp/wp-cont.../06/07-290.pdf

1. The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a
firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for
traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home.
Pp. 2–53.

This court did the right thing. I am disappointed that it was 5-4. It should have been 9-0 in favor of the constitution. That is another reason the presidency is so important. We need constitutionalists on the court, not reconstructionists.

Wow. This thing is 157 pages long! I'm not gonna read it. Too bad the other article didn't have more in it than it did.

Baron, who wrote the Majority? I suspect Scalia. If memory serves he is the only one with no Majority opinion this season and he is the big second amendment guy. No?

which means, if Kennedy retires during the next presidents term (and that is likely)... you could have Obama appointing a Ginsburg who will flip the court to a 5-4 vote to ban handguns.

Scalia is the author. And I am enjoying the read so far. Just glad the author wasn't Ginsburg or we would all be lining up to turn in our guns. i am glad they went beyond striking down the DC law and settling that the right is an individual right apart from the militia.
