Re: Read Before You Click...
And Bush was crucified for listening to selected phone calls in the interest of national security.

That is because listening to phone calls without a warrant is illegal and against the Constitution he swore to uphold.
Wrong isn't a matter of who was more wrong. Wrong is a matter of who did not do right.
They both deserve their chastisement.

No disagreement, D4T, just pointing out the irony--and hypocrisy.

Another interesting thing to note would be this... I wonder what Fox's take was on Bushy boys illegal wire tapping?
I wonder if they even chastised him at all or if they took up for him?

Bush was in fine shape. The Clinton's left good wiretap equiptment in place. They of course had to set up a structure to be fed calls from various and sundry Clinton cling-on girls.
I do not suspect there were disclaimer stickers on the payphones at trailor parks when Bill was at the helm.
If anyone thinks wiretaps have not doubled in the past 6 months, they must be on koolaid.

To be precise, the Constitution is silent when discussing "telephones." For some reason the founders left that out. Don't know why.
Later, courts ruled that DOMESTIC telephone conversation were protected against "unreasonable searches" - the key word here is "unreasonable." If the authorities had "probable cause" and were confident that they could demonstrate that cause later in court - then they could proceed with the "search" or eavesdropping in this case.
The Bush admin's wiretapping targeted primarily FOREIGN telephone conversations, something that was never protected by the courts and certainly never discussed in the Constitution itself. Once probable cause was established from these FOREIGN and INTERNATIONAL telephone conversations then closer scrutiny of the suspects would fall under the probable cause conditions.
For you to twist this rather complex bit of legal interpretations into "is illegal and against the Constitution he (Bush) swore to uphold..." is wrong and even a bit outrageous.
Don't drink too much of that kool-aide and loosen up the strings on your tin foil hat. You'll be able to think more clearly. We really need you thinking clearly on this too, the liberals are spending us into ruin and we need clear heads and sound arguments to defend our precious freedoms.
