Re: apostolic,penticostal
hey Blue, welcome to the site. I'll give you my take on it. And I'm sure others will give you theirs as well.
"Pentecostal" is a reference to the book of acts when the Holy Ghost was poured out on the day of pentecost. Refer to Acts Chapter 2.
"Apostolic" is a reference to those who follow the teachings of Jesus' disciples as recorded in the New Testament.

I took this from my favorite moderators signature:
Let it be understood that Apostolic Friends Forum is an Apostolic Forum.
Apostolic is defined on AFF as:
There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" ( 1Tim 3:16)
Every sinner must repent of their sins.
That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Re: apostolic,penticostal
Apostolic and Pentecostal and Holiness and Charismatic are different terms used interchangeably. There really is no difference.
Some "Apostolics" believe in various shades of the doctrine of the trinity, some in various shades of oneness, some in various shades of arianism and binatarianism.
Some "Pentecostals" believe in various shades of the trinity doctrine, some in various oneness theories, some in arianism and some in binatarianism.
Roman Catholics call themselves Apostolic and so do some of the various Orthodox Churches.
"Apostolic" was a term used by many who received the Holy Ghost Baptism in the late 1800's and early 1900's. These folks were (and are trinitarians) who believe that a person is saved by faith in Jesus Christ and may or may not be water baptized and may or not be baptized in the Spirit. They also referred to themselves as Pentecostal, Holiness, and Latter Rain.
A few years later some (a few) of these Apostolics or Pentecostals began to practice baptism in the name of Jesus and some times used titles such as "Lord" and/or "Christ" in baptism but did not believe that baptism that way had anything to do with salvation.
Later some (a few) of these Apostolics or Pentecostals began to teach that water baptism in Jesus' name and the Holy Ghost Baptism were necessary for salvation. Some of these folks became part of an organization formed in 1945 called the United Pentecostal Church. Now many in leadership positions of the United Pentecostal Church are teaching a revised history of their sect (or cult according to some) and telling folks they have always believed in and practiced water baptism in Jesus' name and have taught that the HGB (Holy Ghost Baptism) is part of a "plan of salvation."
