Life on other planets.

What's the position on the existence of extra-terrestrial life?

There isn't one, as such. Whether life exists on other planets is a scientific, not a theological, question. If life on other planets is ever discovered, there are theological questions which can be considered.

In his novel Perelandra C. S. Lewis speculated about the possibility of a fallen race (such as ours) influencing unfallen extra-terrestrials. We were affected by the fallen angel Satan. There's nothing in the Bible to say humanity couldn't have a similar effect on another race.

On the other hand, we might also play a part in the redemption of another race--a role in their salvation history. The good angels played an important part in ours (Mt 28:2-5; Acts 7:38, 53).

It's possible God has set up multiple worlds, some fallen, some not, but there's not the slightest scientific evidence he has. A few scientists, pandering to the tabloids, claim extra-terrestrials must exist, based on the mathematical likelihood of other stars having planets, but their theories are scoffed at by nearly the entire scientific community.

The argument runs like this: If some of those planets have atmospheres like Earth's, and if some of those Earth-like planets spontaneously generate amino acids, and if some of those amino acids result in higher life-forms, then intelligent life exists on other worlds. You'll note a lot of "ifs" there.

To insist there must be intelligent life elsewhere in the universe is to overstate the case. It's also theologically irrelevant because the central tenets of Christianity remain intact with or without little green men.

I'd be happy just to find intelligent life on THIS planet.

Do Angels all live in one certain place called Heaven where the throne is? We may find out one day they live in various places in the Universe. Where do the bad angels live? Anywhere?

Re: Life on other planets.

You know, I've always wondered something. Every animal on earth is in perfect harmony with it's environment. They have the necessary fur, instinctual hunting habits, ability to find or store water, ability to nest or den naturally within the environment, the advanced senses (sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste) to increase chances for survival, and many, many other qualities that make them perfectly suitable for this planet we call earth.

Then there is - us. They say we evolved from primates. However, in the framework of evolution various species typically evolve by advancing, developing qualities, traits, and capabilities that increase the likelihood of survival. However, with man, we don't see this. For example.... we don't have the necessary fur or "coat" to regulate our body temperature in any given environment. Our skin is such that prolonged exposure to heat or the sun can be deadly. Prolonged exposure to cold can be deadly. We don't have any matching hunting "instinct" or natural foods or prey that we typically hunt. We have no evolutionary bells or whistles that are a part of our anatomy to lure or trick prey. Our eyes are not adapted to deal with darkness. Our circadian rhythm is actually set for a 25 hour day and not a 24 hour day (like what we have on earth). Yes, we are highly intelligent. Yes, we have built grand civilizations. But have you ever noticed that purely on the natural level, we don't fit into the natural environment on this planet?

It is almost like we're not originally from here.

Now, from a religious stand point, nearly every religion seems to subtly explain this by describing our origin as being a garden or place of paradise, the proverbial, "Garden of Eden". But scientifically speaking, I'm not sure why scientists would even think that we are indeed a part of this planet's natural inhabitants. We're not suited to survive here.

So, setting all religious belief aside, what if we are not from here? I mean, theoretically speaking, why would advanced primates "evolve" into such a fragile species? Isn't evolution about survival of the fittest? What if we don't fit in because - we're not from here? What if we're the "aliens"?

funny that we chuckle at the solutions of little kids who don't understand "how the world works" yet, but we grow up to agree with this.

aren't we told quite plainly that there is no "place" called heaven?

No. that is talking about the kingdom of heaven that doesn't come with observation. not heaven.

you think they are two different concepts as regards their physical existence? Heaven is a physical place?
