Anybody ever grilled salmon?
If so, how did you season it?
Thanks, I have some ready to grill. :)
I haven't grilled it, but I love Salmon!
My wife usually broils it in the oven.
Salt & Pepper, and Lemon juice is what she uses!
I dunno but that makes me hungry! Sounds great.

yum. there are several ways.
just a bit of salt and pepper and grill on a cedar plank.
add some lemon pepper and thin slices of lemon on top.
make a paste with basil, garlic and olive oil and baste it.
make a sauce with sugar, soy, jalapenos and a bit of wasabe powder and marinde for 15 minutes before grilling.
season with sesame oil, teriakki and garlic
just dont over cook. you want the center to just be opaque.

I like to brush salmon with a mixture of olive oil, honey, fresh lemon juice, coarse pepper and kosher salt. If you don't like the sweetness of the honey, just leave it out.
The biggest don't: DON'T overcook salmon. Cook it until it is JUST done, and remove it from the heat immediately.
I love salmon--and my kids will eat it, too.

Guess the scales are so small I never noticed the scales. Usually someone blesses with them and all the work has already been done.
Salmon are just now beginning to show up here they are jumping in the harbor. Folks will be smoking their fish for the winter soon here. I love smoked salmon. :D

Butter is good and likely would taste good. but Sister, if you want to live, STAY AWAY FROM THE BUTTER!
One more. Honey, mustard and Olive Oil. whisk together to emuslify and bast the fish with it.
serve the fish over a green salad and use the marinde as a dressing.
very nice.

LOL!!! It's all in the prep work--one of her tips (I think it's hers) is to prep veggies when you get home from the grocery store, and put them in the fridge in ziplocs--that way, you just grab and go when you're ready to cook.

well this one was crazy. it was a lasagna. It tasted really good. my wife decided to make it and she really is not an experienced cook.
she would keep running into a road block because the recipe was off somehow and would call me.
when she cooks, I try to stay out of the way, because while inexperienced, she is a good cook, and I dont want her to think I am taking over.
anyway, it calls for a bachemel sauce but the recipe called for about half the needed flour! the poor girl was standing there boiling milk thinking it was gonna thicken for EVER!
and the meat sauce was SOUP>
i wanted to throttle Rachel Ray ,the fake chef!

just add a little chicken bullion to the water, cook some long grain rice along with some peas and diced carrots. when the rice is done, the veggies are done.

The thing to remember is that Trout is a delicate fish where Salmon has a stronger flavor. Salmon can stand up to bolder flavors where with trout less is really more.
so while the same prep will work, don't use near as much on trout.
I was just thinking about Salmon and a dish I had some time ago, it was served with a fennel cream sauce. sauté some fresh fennel bulb then make a basic cream reduction with a hint of anise. it was really awesome

How long does it take to cook large trout on the grill? And I do mean large. Average size is 24 inches in length and they are thick bodied.
And if the cedar planking is not an option, what else can be done?
Should they be wrapped in foil or just foil used to cover the grill?

RR has never claimed to be a "chef"...she, like Paula Deen, calls themselves "cooks"
I dont know if she's had formal training, but she does have some good food prep tips...and I like how she explains things AND she tells you what you can eliminate or substitute.

I want to try this...
1 tablespoon canola oil
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 tablespoon minced ginger
1 tablespoon minced green onion
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup hoisin sauce
3/4 cup soy sauce
3 tablespoons honey
2 teaspoon sesame oil
4 (8-ounce) salmon steaks, 1-inch thick
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Vegetable oil, for brushing
3 cups baby spinach
Heat a medium size saucepan, over medium heat.
Add canola oil and saute garlic, ginger, and green onion until fragrant and tender. Add the red pepper flakes. Mix the remaining ingredients in a separate bowl and add to the saucepan. Bring to a low simmer and cook for 10 minutes.
Preheat grill to medium-high heat.
Lightly season the salmon steaks with salt and pepper. Oil the grill with vegetable oil. Place the fish down for 4 to 5 minutes. Flip the fish over and brush with the barbecue sauce, continue cooking for another 4 to 5 minutes, until opaque throughout. Divide the baby spinach among 4 plates. Place the salmon steaks on top of the beds of spinach while still very hot. This will make the spinach wilt.
Is fennel a type of onion?
No it is kind of like Celery....sort of.
but a mild flavor that is a cross between basil and anise.

I couldnt give you cooking times. you need to read a dozen or so recipes and get a feel for what a bunch of different people think.
plus your cooking serface will be different anyway.
you can also buy one of those Fish basket things for your grill. that works well. they have a handle, so you just turn the thing over so the fish doesnt break apart.
cooking on a grill in foil is fine, but really all you are doing is keeping the heat and the fish smell out of your house. thats my 2 cents anyway.

I couldnt give you cooking times. you need to read a dozen or so recipes and get a feel for what a bunch of different people think.
plus your cooking serface will be different anyway.
you can also buy one of those Fish basket things for your grill. that works well. they have a handle, so you just turn the thing over so the fish doesnt break apart.
cooking on a grill in foil is fine, but really all you are doing is keeping the heat and the fish smell out of your house. thats my 2 cents anyway.
good points ferd i have a fish screen i use to keep it together, yummy, walleye grilled, mmmm good
