View Full Version : Why did Herodia want John's head?
Dr. Vaughn
07-20-2008, 01:20 PM
Herodias divorced her husband Philip---and it was a scandal because she married again while her husband was still living.
Realize WHY John the Baptist was beheaded: because he told Herod that he had his brother Philip's wife.
The divorces of both of their spouses (Herod's and Herodias) did NOT dissolve the bond of marriage between Herodias and Philip. She was his wife until HE (Philip) died
Even though they had a LEGAL DIVORCE.. in Gods eyes she was still another mans wife......
People will hate you and despise you if you stand for this truth.. but I encourage the men of God everywhere to begin standing for ONE WIFE and ONE HUSBAND for life.. anything else falls short of the mark and is thus SIN

I find these scripture of most interest
Mark 10:11 After they repeatedly asked Jesus to clarify his stand on Divorce and Remarriage.... he says here
Mark 10:12 And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.No exucse here for Adultery at all... is there?
He almost in frustration.. weary of their pressing him... made it abundatly clear whats Gods law is......
He said MOSES allowed for DIVORCE because of their hardness.. but here he AGAIN brings it back to the beginning of creation,,,and say the TWO become ONE and if they ever remarry they are in Adultery
And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

Under the Old Covenant the penalty for adultery was DEATH. That would free the innocent party to remarry. Because of their Royal standing it obviously was not carried out.

So You Pastors and Saints who believe as the Bible states concerning divorce, 'in the beginning it was not so' for a man or woman to divorce their spouses and feel that God is still calling them to preach the gospel even when the man and his wife both have prior marriages? They are definately not obeying God's word, so how are they qualified?

so Jesus is contraditcting his own self? Since the beginning a man could Divorce his wife for fornication........and Jesus knowing this allows for the same... fornication before marriage,,, should he find out she was not a virgin.. he was free to marry another virgin... but never another mans wife...
Whats sooo sad is you know all of that is true and yet you keep bucking it

Paul says the Lord instructs that a wife should not separate from her husband BUT if she does she is to remain unmarried or reconcile
Paul says his own instruction is if a spouse has an unbelieving spouse that separates from them then in that case they are not bound
1Cor 7:15 But if the unbelieving partner separates, let it be so. In such cases the brother or sister is not enslaved. God has called you to peace.

The words leap for joy comes from the Greek σκιρτάω / skirtaō.
That's in the Imperative mood.
5794 Mood — Imperative
The imperative mood corresponds to the English imperative, and expresses a command to the hearer to perform a certain action by the order and authority of the one commanding. Thus, Jesus’ phrase, “Repent ye, and believe the gospel” (Mk.1:15) is not at all an “invitation,” but an absolute command requiring full obedience on the part of all hearers.
When a word is in the Imperative mood that means that it is a commandment. So you are breaking the commandments of God.
Yet you are an expert on the subject?

It was not the incest he mentioned Elder, it was the 2nd marriage
What John said was, "It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife."
The unlawful act was not the fact that it was a "2nd marriage," but that it was a brother marrying his brother's ex. Under Moses' law a divorced woman was free to marry whoever she wished except certain close family members of her ex-husband.
Leviticus 18:16; Leviticus 20:21; Matthew 14:3-4.
I think most folks would try and make your case using the last half of Matthew 19:9.

What do you suggest
Nothing....You posted asked if you are "rightly dividing." Then you quote some verses. Why? What doctrine or belief are you quoting these verses to support.
No one and answer if you are "rightly dividing" without knowing what you are really trying to say?

It's about time you showed up with a little insight on the subject.
Who are you to talk about "showing up?" Where have you been Bro?

Yeah. The neighbors who were feeding them moved and the coons moved on.
They are frustrating critters. Neighbors, that is. Coons just do what racoons do.

You should buy that house and turn it into a guest house. I just might feel led to come see you. Love those mountains.

Actually they were commanded to take their brothers wife and bear children for their dead brother

you guys are sad
Actually we're happy hogs as you would say. But I gotta hand it to ya, you got grit doc. I don't know of too many on here that would put up a fight like you. For what it's worth, I like that kind of grit; however, you're almost alone in your fight against our fellow AFFer's and they'll keep pounding you as long as you let 'em. I wish you all the success you can muster, you'll need it. LOL!
