About an hour ago I saw they moved it up to 8 A.M.
The good news about the storm moving faster than they had predicted is that it may not have time to pick up strength so may hit land as a weaker cat 3 than the strong cat 3 or cat 4 they have been thinking.
It has already slowed from a cat 4 down to a cat 3.
AmazingGrace

I wish CC they just said here they think it will still go back up to a cat 4

I do have to say this... It may be a different story being actually there but I have been rotating between the weather channel and foxnews and it appears that New Orleans has totally handled this differently so far and I am very proud of how it appears to be moving so smoothly so far. God bless all in the path of this storm!

Is all of Houston evacuating?
No. folks for La have evacuated TO Houston. Many of the hotels are full.
One sad report is a family left La with reservations for two rooms and because they didn't get there in time due to the 5 mph traffic, bumper to bumper, their rooms were released to someone else.
Although I thought IF you gave a cc they would hold your rooms???

Yes, Orange County, Jefferson County, and Hardin County all are under mandatory evacuation. We however, are not heeding that. We don't think it is necessary as the storm has down graded PLUS it is going further east than originally predicted.

They have changed our area from a watch to a warning. They are now saying the storm could go more west and be much closer to us.
The eye of the storm is NOT very well formed at this time and when it reforms I guess they will know more as to which direction it will take.
I pray we will be safe and believe that God's hand of protection is upon us.
Thanks for all your prayers.
P.S. IF you don't see me on for awhile later it COULD be we are out of electricity.

Just finished taping up and boarding windows. Prayed for every tree on my lot, prayed over the house and family. I've done what I can now it's up to the Lord to do His thing.
As of 8pm there is a dusk till dawn curfew and the national Guard will be in control. I live two blocks from the Police station, in Oakdale, and went over after getting home from church to see if there was a mandatory evacuation. There is. I was told I can stay but there will be no help from Fire, Police, or Emergency personal. I guess we really have to trust the Lord. I'll try to keep posting as long as there is electricity. We are staying at home.
We prayed at Church this morning that the Lord would calm Gustav and now he's down from a cat 4 to a low cat 3.
Watching and waiting.

We may have caught a break with this storm. There is a ring of dry air that has circled around the storm that is keeping it from strengthening. Thank you God for hearing our Prayers. It is still a serious storm, and will be a strong Cat2 or a weak Cat 3. The pressure is increasing but the winds are not. This is according to WWL in New Orleans.

The storm is now down to a cat 2 w 110 mile per hour winds... the eye should be in soon they are saying,
The leevies are not being breached in new orleans at this time which is a good thing however the surges are beginning to top them... its not near as bad yet as it was in Katrina ... yet.... there for now is just a lot of sign damage and some windows etc in NO... the damage so far appears to be in the french quarter only really...
There are tons of tornados from florida to Miss.. so pray for them also....
There is also a new tropical depression... Ike forming :(
The worst part of this storm currently is expected to hit in the next hour as far as the actual eye...

I agree. The storm itself is dramatic enough, but now they have to jump on every little thing and make it a HUGE story. That's why one of the engineers who went in with a life vest on to secure a fuel tank suddenly became "SOMEONE IN THE WATER, BLANKETY BLANK, THEY NEED TO BE RESCUED!!!!!!!!!!!!"

If you have time there are 3 huge pine trees, two in my yard and one in the neighbors, well within crushing either house , that could use an angel to make sure they don't blow over. We are trusting too the God of all creation and the Master over every storm, to watch over us and keep us safe.

One yr when one of the bad ones hit one of my friends house in Florida.. they had the same issue.. so he went out and moved all the vehicles... but first he prayed about it... because there was literally no really safe place for them to go as he had stayed behind too long to help all of their elderly neighbors get ready for the storm... they then went around and prayed over the house and all the trees and then when he went to move the cars he prayed over that too... he moved one and then he felt God told him to move his suburban to the other side of the house.. A side the wind shouldnt have hit bad... that suburban took the brunt of a 100 ft tree that otherwise would have landed in the living room of their home! :)

The West Bank which was a real area of concern, does not seem to be having the problems that they anticipated. Of course this is not over with- if you recall- with Katrina- we did not have problems until several hours after the storm passed by. No trees have hit the house yet. He sounded pretty shaky- said this was the worse that BR had gotten in several years. Of course there is no electricity and there is a curfew. No trees have hit the house yet. He sounded pretty shaky- said this was the worse that BR had gotten in several years. Of course there is no electricity and there is a curfew. No one is allowed on the road.
we are at home,we live off of highland road. we have no electricity and the wind is unreal.. thank God for this generator :)

I'm in Mobile, AL and we all breathed a huge sigh of relief. To whomever had family stuck in one of our downtown hotels, I'm sure they're quite fine. Water Street probably has flood water over it.

Talked with my parents again. They are without electricity- and have 8 trees down. They are safe, but hot and dark. They are going to our house tomorrow and set up the generator. My sister has twelve trees down at her house. According to the news they had winds 92 miles an hour in Baton Rouge.

LaGirl... do you still have power and how did things go there last night?
We are getting some side effects of it now... our high went from being predicted at 95 to maybe 88 and its kind of cloudy and a 50% chance of rain other than that nothing big here..
I have some friends in the Marksville area who had some flooding and one in the Alexandria area who lost part of their roof... and one in Lafayette who also got some pretty bad flooding... but thank God that was the most of the damage for those who we knew there.

I can not reach my dad in Alexandria, apparently the phone lines are down. There are no trees in his yard so the roof is the only thing that may blow. He is nearly 80 so I am praying he is safe.
The storm is nearing Shreveport where my brother and mom live. They have tons of trees and my brother lives in a doublewide next to my mom's old house.
I pray all is well for them as well, since one of their daughters and her four children is staying with them.

I can tell you that Shreveport got gust of about 35 miles per hour and a couple of inches of rain. It really was not bad here. I think central LA got hit pretty hard.

Yes Central La got hit pretty bad last night. The phones are pretty much all down for the most part from Alexandria to Hessmer and Marksville... Most of the power is out too... Trees down and a lot of crops ruined. My best friend lives there and her husband installs and repairs highlines. He called me on his way to Lafayette to start repairs. Oppolusus (sp) is the only place he was able to get any cell signal. He said they didnt look like they got hit that bad in OP but that was just from the highway and all he saw was some trees down.

I don't know how much more damage they got after 9:15pm last night, but I talked to a friend of mine in Baton Rouge at that time last night. She said that Baton Rouge had gotten more damage from Gustav than from any other hurricane before (Andrew, Katrina & Rita) because Gustav had longer periods of higher sustained winds. I haven't talked to her this morning, and had planned to attempt to reach her later this afternoon. She told me she would be busy most of the morning and I didn't want to try then. I'll let y'all know if I'm able to reach her.

I drove in to Alex from Oakdale this morning and there is a lot of flooding. WE have water standing in our front and back yard, although it not very deep nor are we in danger of it coming into the house. Trees are down along with power lines. A lot of street flooding in Alex, glad I have a hig riding 4X4 Ford F150........:nod
We got power back last night around 10:30 PM. What a relief. I rigged up a Marine battery and a 750 Watt power inverter to run a fan to circulate the air while we slept. WE had no damage to the house that I can tell.
Thank you Jesus!!!!!

Just talked to Baton Rouge- They are still without power and may be without power for 2 to 4 weeks. Right now there are 4 gas stations open in all of BR- You can just imagine the lines for gas. We are staying up in Shreveport at least until Sunday. Family has gone to our house, checked on everything no damage and emptied out our freezer and fridge. They are concerned about flooding of many of the rivers in BR. You can hear the hum of generators and chainsaws throughout the city as long as the gasoline last.

I know that's terrible, but it could have been a lot worse. At least they aren't looking for bodies.

I agree- The evacuation was very successful and that is why we are not having a search and rescue mission. I just hope that people will remember that evacuation is the key. I have already talked to several people that said - I am not leaving next time. Well, that is just asking for disaster. If we are going to live in the area that is affected by hurricanes, we have to respect them and get out of their way.

Can you believe the complaints that are coming from the ungrateful idiots who are now blaming the officials for forcing them to evacuate for nothing???
I say leave them to their destiny next time. The smart people can get out faster.

My sister told me yesterday, "You just watch--next time folks will say, 'we're not goin' nowhere--last time they had us evacuate and nothin' happened.'"
The government got the blame three years ago when they did nothing.
So this time, they want to make sure that the fewest lives are lost. They won.
And the people still complain.
Personally, and speaking as someone who has NEVER been in a hurricane of any type (except the aftermath, when it moves inland five days later like I'll be seeing tomorrow), I'd rather be inconvenienced for nothing than think it's no big deal and lose my life or the lives of my children.
