Report: Palin Asked Rick Warren For Advice
Posted by Vaughn Ververs| 40
GOP VP nominee Sarah Palin called influential pastor Rick Warren earlier this week to ask for advice on how to handle the criticism that has come her way, The Hill reports.
In a California radio interview, Warren said that Palin had called him to seek help in dealing with the “unfair, unjust” attacks she said she believes had been launched at her since being tapped as John McCain’s running mate. Warren recounted the conversation, saying he responded by saying, “the question I asked her was 'how can I pray for you?'"
Warren said Palin asked him to “send her some bible verses on how do you deal with the unfair, unjust attacks and the mean-spirited criticism that comes in."

Very unethical on Warren's part. At the same time I don't think it was the smartest move on Palin's part. Warren has obviously become much more politicized and going to him for confidential counsel at that level makes as much sense as Britney Spears allowing Dr. Phil into her hospital room then being surprised that he went public. Did she have a prior relationship with Warren? I wonder why she didn't just go to her pastor for advice, direction, or prayer.

If it is true..Palin needs some wisdom.

Today, politics is all about getting out the right soundbytes ... when orchestrating a targeted spin campaign
I submit this may have been very orchestrated ....
Considering the launch of the McCain's new ad ... claiming that the wolves are out to get Palin ...
The "prayer" by a preacher icon for the damsel in distress ... who is seeking pastoral advice about being attacked by mean-spirited, blood-thirsty wolves ... with O being the big bad wolf .... ties too nicely into this new strategy.
The ad ....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pPAdN6XQG0
Poor ... poor widdle Pawin ... those Democratic neanderthals are causing her to seek spiritual guidance.
Just another example of wag the dog.
PP ... you're being duped.
Things like this are very calculated ... many times.

If that is the case it doesn't make sense to me and is completely unnecessary. The religious right could not possibly be any more firmly in her corner so I don't see what could be gained. On the other hand it will give fodder to those who will try to paint her as "too religious". Going to a televangelist for direction will turn a lot of people off.

Who said the target is the religious right ... this in attempt to prey on people's perceptions and sensitivities,
.... the undecideds .... to sympathize with a damsel who is being victimized by a vicious Obama seeking to destroy her.
The victimized female will always tug strings ... in the courtroom and in the court of public opinion.
Furthermore ....Warren is not your TBN televangelist ... he's viewed very differently .... in the eyes of the public .... probably along the lines of once politicized Billy Graham.
He might just being pimped by a shrewd campaign guru to send out the message that Palin is being attacked ....

Oh, I thought you meant targeting the religious right if indeed it was all a stunt. Either way, it is a dangerous game because I would not want to paint her as too helpless of a damsel if I wanted to present her as potential Commander in Chief and leader of the free world. I would not want people to think that pressure of this nature would get her rattled at all because it is superficial compared to the real-life pressure of that level of leadership. Politics is a crazy thing.

I don't think there is much that scares Palin. She has got to be one tough lady. People not familiar with life in Alaska have no clue just how it is up there.

If she did seek prayer and guidance, and he revealed it to the press, it's unethical. If she did so, and either gave him permission or requested that he leak it to the press--it's still unethical (for him to participate).
I doubt he is lying about it, simply because it is easily verifiable.

I'm not saying that she is not tough, but the environment that she is in now is a vastly different environment. I know many tough people from "the hood" who wouldn't necessarily do well in every other tough situation conceivable. I heard someone talking about Fulsom prison say that they were accustomed to always being the big fish and it was a culture shock when they got there and realized that they were surrounded by sharks. That analogy is true in other scenarios too.

I agree, but I just don't see the real benefit of intentionally leaking this. If that is the case they need to hire new strategist ASAP.

This is true, but any local or state politics is tough. But you are right, I don't know if Obama or Palin are really ready for the respective jobs.

She should have talked to a Licensed professional counselor who is bound by ethics of the licensure. For sure if it was leaked to the media...the counselor would be out of a job. That is why you never tell Pastors anything:)

Maybe some of you are being too hard on Rick Warren.
I don't see where he revealed anything that's all that personal. If she looks to him as a spiritual guide in her life, and calls on him for advice, I don't see why it's such a breach of confidence for him to say that.
Besides, maybe she doesn't mind people knowing she speaks to him. I see no indication that she's upset what he said; so if she's not bothered by it, why should I be?

I personally think that Sarah Palin is not unlike Esther...she has been prepared for such a time as this, and we Pentecostals need to be her armour bearers. She is not fighting as the world fights...she is not as worldly as all that...but God will give her wisdom is we all pray for her.
In Jesus name,

Just goes to show that many Pastors do not understand the concept of 'confidentiality'. They seem to always have the best interest of the saint in mind;)

Only if it relates to a spiritual problem. All other things should be directed to a person, or persons one can trust to hold confidentiality and you can explore thoughts and feeling that will not be used against you at the Pastor's convenience.:friend

Disclaimer: My opinions are not the opinions of the administration or moderators of this forum. They are the opinions of a woman who has experienced more than her fair share of 'issues' with 'religious' people/organizations, & churches. Trust is a sacred thing. I have learned this lesson the hard way myself. I have not always been trustworthy and have disclosed information that I shouldn't have when it benefitted me. The exception to this is in the role of a licensed counselor. I am ashamed of past behavior and am working on my 'issues'.

I think that part of the issue is that trust has to be earned and the trustworthiness of an individual should not just be assumed no matter their position or title. It's kind of like "respect" in that way.

I think you have nailed it! however it went down, RW was wrong!
I know understand what you are saying. My problem is the pastor who has the best interest of someone else's saint in mind.
I'm dealing with a pastor from another state who told lies about me and my family to the district board in my state. He's convinced people to sign false documents.
I called 3 times today and left a voicemail for him to meet me somewhere so we can settle this as scripture says. He has ignored my plea for a godly resolve. My only consolation is that his prayers won't be answered as long as he has offence against me.
I'm giving it about another 24 hours before I contact his district superintendant. If that doesn't work, I'll get my legal team after his skanky backside.
Just goes to show that many Pastors do not understand the concept of 'confidentiality'. They seem to always have the best interest of the saint in mind;)
