A couple years ago I tried to raise money to build a little church in a village in Ceara...but we did not get to far along on the building program and look what happened on this trip...I till believe the Lord wants a church in this little village...Here s a picture of what we did with funds that came in...we bougt the land and started building...but no more money came in so we could not do anymore...However since this family I will tell you about has come to the Lord from here I blieve we should build in thi area. Pastor Milton told me he would walk to this village on Saturdays if I would help them build...

After visiting this village I decided to write this letter to try to raise funds...

Someone had told us they wanted a visit, It must have been well over 100 degrees. It was so hot. Needless to say we were sweating but we could not use that as an excuse not to visit a family that was hungry for God, Our bodies wanted some cold water to drink but that was unthinkable in that area. We pushed aside the thought of cold water and went on to make the visit.
It was not the easiest place to find but finally we found the home and clapped our hands in front of a little wooden gate. A little girl appeared and Bro. Raul Jr said, “we have come to visit your family”. The lady of the house must have heard for in just a minute she came running out to receive us. How can I describe the smile on her face? It will be forever implanted in my memory.
We followed her to her house as a big black goat wandered out of the living room making room for us.
After just a few words we began to sing to the family a song called, The man of Galilee is passing by here.
I looked at the lady who had welcomed us with such enthusiasm…tears were dripping down her cheeks yes, I know she was hearing the music of His call…We had arrived in time! I reached out and hugged her as we sang.
All of a sudden the man of the house spoke up and said I have an accordion! (The last thing I would have guessed they owned) It was old but he carefully unwrapped it and handed it to Brother Alvear…Only those that have heard Brother Alvear sing and play know what a tremendous voice he has. All of a sudden he began to sing “He left the splendor of heaven…The presence of the Lord kissed that place!
It will always be record in heaven that on the day the 29th of November His presence was in a little humble home in the hot dry wasteland of Ceara…We continued to sing and He continued to embrace His lost earthly family that had just entered into his presence.
This was not the village where we were having service in fact it was not really in walking distance. Brother Alvear said, we can come get you all or make arrangements for you all to come to the village where we will be at tonight. We had rented a car so it would be no problem to arrange for them to get there. They gladly accepted.
We did not have to long until the night service. There they were. I watched them as the service progressed. They seemed to enjoy all that was going on and after a wonderful message from Brother Alvear Sr this couple fell at the feet of Jesus.
Strange as this may seem at one time we had started a building there in that village but we had never been able to finish because of lack of funds.
God wants us to raise money I told Raul Jr…I will write a letter even though some make fun of my plea letters…I told him. I plead for them and for their work. No matter how much I personally may need something seldom do I mention personal needs…but I know God called me to be a connecting link between the North American and the South American church. It is His church not my church. So once again I ask you to consider helping build a little village church where there is no Jesus Name church at all. To leave them in darkness would be cruel. Brother Raul Jr told me that for 2000 dollars they finish the little building in that village…so I ask you, will you help? Maybe you cannot help moneywise but you can pray that those that can will feel the tug of a lost world at their heart. Since God is the Author and source of the Great Commandment and the Great Commission it is our job to obey. May God Grant us vision for evangelism now.
I love the old Shaker saying, “Hands to work and hearts to God.”
Within all the pomp and pageantry of our traditions, I pray that we can see beyond all that and look into the face of the humble God who robed himself in flesh from Galilee…who pointed down the road of time and said…Go…
It is HIS desire is for every nation, tribe, people and language to be saved. May we seek out the chosen ones, seek direction for the salvation of the people of our land and beyond, for without knowledge of truth people perish into eternal night..
Some of you may receive this letter twice for I am sending it to my son to send out also to his friends…Many blessings to all.
Being here, looking on the harvest field, we feel some of the burden that the Lord Jesus must have felt when He looked upon the hungry, lost, confused multitudes. His agonizing caused Him to utter the prayer so often repeated, but so seldom heeded: "Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He will send forth laborers unto His harvest."

"The concern for world evangelization is not something tacked on to a man's personal Christianity, which he may take or leave as he chooses. It is rooted in the character of the God who has come to us in Christ Jesus. Thus, it can never be the province of a few enthusiasts, a sideline or a specialty of those who happen to have a bent that way. It is the distinctive mark of being a Christian." - James S. Stewart
