Have you heard that there is a Debate over whether females ought to be allowed to wear Leggings under their skirts ??????

I heard a report that it's the Rage for UPC girls to wear long johns or jogging Pants under their skirts and some folks are in a tizzy over it.

There was even a report of a CA. Con church doing this and brows were raised.

Do you feel this is wrong as it pertains to the doctrine of Duet 22 ????

would you allow it in your church??

your opinions please

NO way! I think those girls need to have frostbitten legs, and suffer from hypothermia, to really feel feminine and godly :winkgrin

well what i mean is, some feel that it's too close to wearing pants which is considered strictly a man's garment according to the teaching

I understand that, and I agree that if the church teaches that, then there shouldn't be any exceptions.

This is one of the many problems with standards teachings when specific articles are required. There is no biblical precedent for such teaching.

Frostbite- when is there the threat of frostbite in California in April?!?

It reportedly included the use of bike pants and leggings.

It also was included with skirts shorter than the norm. Next we will see bellybuttons........ aka Christina and Brittney.

If the leggings are worn so the skirts can be shorter, that is an issue of legalism. There's a heart issue that needs to be addressed. If leggings are worn for warmth, that is a principle issue. For some, leggings look like mens apparel, for others it just a sock with holes at both ends.

Although if it is an issue of being mens apparel, I've never seen mens apparel with two legs and no waist. That would look a bit akward.

a person does not "set themselves up" as a pastor over a group of people...

Some do ;) Or they get a group of men, to decide "hey, we think you are good enough to be the boss of these poor schlubs over here"

If you think God is behind every man who stands up and said "God put me in charge, you have to listen to what I say", then you are wonderfully naive.

Some do ;) Or they get a group of men, to decide "hey, we think you are good enough to be the boss of these poor schlubs over here"

If you think God is behind every man who stands up and said "God put me in charge, you have to listen to what I say", then you are wonderfully naive.

and if you think every pastor is some self appointed ego maniac, then you are wonderfully mistaken

What was respectful to do 50 years ago isn't necessarily what is respectful today.
My point was, did the evangelicals teach standards as a heaven or hell issue? Or was it the culture at the time that set that standard?

The church is not a government, or a part of the judicial system. I do not believe that churches should be run like a courthouse. I believe that placing so much stock in what the preacher says allows many saints to deny their own responsibility of their sprititual walk, and need of a personal relationship with God. After all, why do they need to seek God, when they can just ask the Pastor what they are supposed to do. Why fast? Why pray? Instead just get a list of rules to follow and never have to think for oneself.

No, I'm sorry, the fact that someone is abled to get ordained by an organization and find enough money to finance, or get enough people to follow them, or some other men to appoint them. No, I'm sorry that in itself does not garner any automatic respect from me.

Good luck on the MR/MRS Lastname. I was in the south at that time and was constantly met with resistance, even by the elderly. I was quite shocked, having grown up differently in the liberal north!

The sir and ma'am thing disappears when they approach the teen years, for the most part. I yelled at my daughter real good the other day when she was being scolded for kicking her brother and called me 'dude'. LOL!

God is a man and he does NOT like leggings! (unless it is very cold and He still prefers you stay indoors on cold days unless it is sunday which you have to go to church but leggings are out for church so you need a very long heavy coat that will keep you from being cold but you do have to wear panty hose and there are some panty hose that are dark in color and more thick. these are not really leggings so they are ok although they really are leggings.)

anyhow, at the time, an Evangelist went to a church to preach a revival where the pastor didn't allow the women to use "Rats" ??? in their hair. it was some kind of stuffing they used to poof it out. anyhow, the pastor found out that the evangelist' wife had "Rats" in her hair. he said either the hairdo comes down or we close the revival. the evangelist closed the meeting and left

sorry about the tangent.. the symbolism is too great to pass up.

Around here in my neck of the woods, Pastors are voted in. . .by the people.

The last 2 churches that I have attended, have both been started by the current pastor.

Why then even have a pastor at all?

An excellent point! Which is why I don't. Not that I think that will earn me any Brownie points. I guess you didn't read the post where I proclaimed myself a backslidden, church skipping, heathen (with a lot of other adjectives thrown in for good measure) ;)

I visit a church twice a month (not nearly good enough according to a recent poor by Coop), which is done somewhat under duress, so now, feel free to write me off as a worldly carnal nobody ;)

What was respectful to do 50 years ago isn't necessarily what is respectful today.

My point was, did the evangelicals teach standards as a heaven or hell issue? Or was it the culture at the time that set that standard?

I'm having a hard time with this statement HeavenlyOne. It is the culture of our time for women to run around with hardly any close on. Does that make it right because it is our culture? I think the standards came about because some were no longer listening to the Holy Ghost.

I was watching a video of a Bible Methodist revival. (Barb mentioned them in another thread and I was interested in them). The preacher said that the people are loosing their feeling for the Holy Ghost. Meaning, when the Holy Ghost convicts them about a certain thing they don't listen. He gave the example of when you get dressed and the Holy Ghost tells you that what you just put on isn't right. With out that it does seem to become legalistic.

I said all that to say...I don't believe standards are a Heaven/Hell issue. But just because it is the culture/fad/style at the time doesn't mean we have to follow it all. Some of the c/f/s isn't bad, but much of it is something we shouldn't have in our life.

You are confusing fads with culture. Our culture doesn't have a standard of people wearing hardly any clothes, but just like any culture, there are fads that come and go.

The local Goth group is modestly dressed, but their style of clothing isn't what a Christian should wear, nor is their style of clothing considered to be cultural.
