View Full Version : Beatitudes
I taught on the beatitudes at the Seniors centre and the very first Beatitude is,
"Blessed are the poor....
Praise God! I ain't rich, I must be blessed!
..in spirit!"
To be poor in spirit means to be Humble, empty of ones self, devoid of any merit besides Christ for ones redemption.
One Elder said, "if you think you are holy-you're not!"
Do you think that true humility is a rare commodity in the Church today?
It is all about me! Look what I have done!
When in reality, I have just been an unprofitable servant.
Humble people do not fight for their own ways, viewpoints, or even wrongs.
Humility is hard for a Choleric, but it is a necessary Christian Grace, probably the most underrated.
Do you think True Humility is a lost Grace of the Modern Church?
Have there been calls to consecrate, dedicate, not with flashy appeals, but
with old fashioned repentance at an old fashioned altar?
For the record, I feel that humility is something I need to work on.
You?

Ron,
I think that humility is a "lacking" grace in the Modern Church. I don't think it is lost. God has a way of allowing circumstances to humble us at different times in our lives.
I suppose pride and humility fight each other.
I also believe that it is an attitude that bleeds into the church by some of the things we involve ourselves in. That could be as much as work ethics, which many people find a way around, etc.
Put it this way, I hate being humbled, but sometimes it is a blessing.
True humility won't get flustered when a humbling situation comes along.
I tend to think that God don't care what situation we find ourselves in, but I believe without a shadow of a doubt that he cares deeply about are attitudes in them.

I've heard, many times, that it is harder for a man to submit because of his nature as a bread winner. Having said that, do you also think it's harder for him to humble himself?
I find, IMO, that it is a little different - the two words - submit and humble.
By that I mean that I think men can be more forgiving than a woman, but to submit their will in some matters is not as easy.
Did that make sense? lol

That depends on what they are submitting themselves too!
What is the attitude that one has in submitting themselves.

LOL! Women have it too! But men are more "comparing of the war wounds" type of mentality. Beating the chest and howling thing. I'm bigger than you, thing. Competition thing.

I would agree with you except I have been beat up more than you, so I will refrain.

Loved all the discussion on the various threads today, Ron. It's great to have you back and posting more.
With that, I'm off to bed. Getting a nasty cold and I feel very low on that account.
Extra Vitamin C will do the trick!
Good night!!!
God Bless!
