I attend a small UPC church in East Texas, and we normally do not record our services in any way. My pastor does not consider himself a great preacher (I don't agree) and is a very humble man. Sooo, given the vote of that last few days..lo and behold, I walk into church today and there's a video camera pointed at the platform!!!!!!!!!! Have you guys seen any changes yet?
(Disclaimer...there was a young preacher ministering to us today who I am sure was/is going to use his sermon on the internet, as he travels abroad frequently...I highly doubt my pastor is going on TV)

I don't think we will see that many changes. Many of our churches can't afford to be on T.V. nor do they particularly want to. What it will do is open doors of opportunity for some who would have had to decline the opportunity otherwise.
Fellow Texan:)

I got a phone call from someone who said I should listen to a message on their church's website. The pastor talked about the conference and the ridiculous response of those against the tv resolution. He put his congregation on notice. The sermon isn't posted on the net yet. I'll post the link if and when it becomes available.
It looks like legalism will be dealt with openly from the pulpit. Sounds good to me. We need some balance.

I will be placing an ad on our local cable access station this week.
It will run indefinitely as a bulletin board type ad.

I don't know what the fuss is all about. I've seen threads proclaiming doom and gloom. My pastor is working to get this message out to reach the lost. If we do it by a camera and people receive the Holy Ghost, Praise God! Question is how many preachers that don't want a tv finally have a message to preach to their people! Ooops...excuse me, they just found another group to aim their pointless message too! Sorry, these brethern need to pray and find a real message to preach about other than tv!

I think your "disclaimer" may show what's really at work. In the past would your pastor have allowed a visiting preacher to set up a video cam?
Video is a great tool - even without a TV program. Many preachers I know have used it just to watch themselves to catch those things that their wives nag them about (LOL- but true!). My pastor has used video cams for years but doesn't broadcast or stream on the web.

I think he would have, but it's never come up since I've been attending (about 2 yrs). He's a reasonable old chap :)
The church is 75 years old. Still a lot of traditional minded members.

DISH Network and DirecTV are reporting record appointments for the installation of Satellite dishes!!!
A suggestion that worked for me. Advertise a free community event, provide free food, give stuff away to kids. Use radio psa's get interviews with newspapers. Hit the streets with personal evangelism. Refer to the tv ad in your conversation. Had over 100 people show up to a kids crusade weekend. The crusade was in August. So far four have gotten the Holy Ghost and 4 got have been baptized. Two of the four getting the Holy Ghost are husband and wife. Two of their kids were filled with the Holy Ghost. Every argument a legalist had why television advertising will not work was successfully debunked. Television advertising will work.

This is how I would have wanted "advertising" defined.

My eyes are open. The only changes I see though are all the Internet people. Here in the real world that surrounds me there's nothing going on due to Res. 4.

My old UPC church always recorded the services audio and video. That was 1984 when I started going to church.
The men in the navy received audio or video sermons to keep them going while away on six month cruses.
Tv is nothing new.....

Seriously, Pelathias had a great idea for at least taping yourself to see what your service looks like, you see a LOT of things that can be changed for the gooder! Like mad looking choir members as they sing...SMILE singers! They sing, "I Feel The Joy Of The Lord Coming Over Me" while frowning!!!! Or "I Lift Up My Hands" and they ain't!!!! Or preacher ankles as they do the famous preacher leg cross. Or, booger picking bass players.

Really, whats all the fuss about? My husband and I have long been in charge of taping church services and producing them for cable (free public broadcast local station) televising, although I can't say that they were ever all that successful., as far as evangelism goes., but they ARE a link; and having a prayer line for people to call is always a good idea., prayer can work wonders, if not immediately, then on down the line., our job is to plant seeds. PERIOD.
It takes a combination of things and for the soul that IS READY, and is fertile ground, seeds WILL germinate, and they WILL come to JESUS, at the appointed time in whatever way they are ready to receive, wherever GOD leads them; GOD is the one whom gives the increase, man just plants.
Too much ado over television already!
