Ever think of the titles and labels used around here? What do they refer to when they say CON or LIB? It is predominantly the issue of Clothes! (There is the liberal notion of salvation as well. But for the most part people are referring to what a person says about concerns over dress codes when they refer to CONS or LIBS). This means that we categorize people with the emphasis on clothing, when the bible NEVER made clothing an emphasis. It was briefly mentioned and it was mentioned in lieu of modesty and sexual distinction only. And the instances the Bible mentions that is microscopic compared to the issues the Bible emphasizes. And I strongly believe in modesty.
So, why do we not categorize people around the issues the bible emphasizes instead of things the bible barely mentions?

Perhaps. But what is it that people mostly think about with even the mindset? Clothes, predominantly. Amongst all the things a person can be liberal about, or conservative about, it is clothing that tops the list.

not really.I consider myself conservative and I don't think about clothes alot unless I am shopping.I guess it might depend on how big a church crowd you are used to and how much life experience you have. Its easy to preach to the choir.I mostly think about prayer and reaching the backsliders and the lost.

Our church is doing great. I have never seen so many little miracles occur before as we have seen with the inception of the new work. Unbelievable donations out of the blue, members blessed to bless the church, contacts with quite supernatural causes, etc. But then, I never started a church before either. :)

Thanks, bro. It came to my mind when someone asked me about our new church and whether or not it was conservative or liberal. So I wondered to myself what they were specifically referring to.

The new testament emphasizes such things as RevDWW said. It also emphasizes walking after the Spirit and being Spirit led. Col 2 says we should stop emphasizing things we can touch, taste or handle and instead emphasize things ABOVE where Christ sits at the right hand. Paul then says they are things like forebearance, and love and so on.
John was categorized as the one who loved Jesus, and whom Jesus loved!

Great thread! You know, I never thought of myself in over 20 years of being an Apostolic as a lib, mod or con. It wasn't until this forum that I began to wonder what others would categorize me as being?
I was called a liberal be some, because of my hesitancy to judge others by a "holiness standard". Furthermore, I found it difficult to see clearly what category suited me the best. Many aspects of my personal convictions would have placed me in the moderate to conservative categories. I don't feel it would be immodest to wear shorts or jewelery; however, those things would be something that personally I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing (I do wear shorts in my home). I have owned a television for many years, but I won't go to a movie theater, because my choice of entertainment would be different than the movies that Hollywood produces. Looking back during my walk with the Lord, I guess depending on the time, I could have been placed in all three of those categories. It must grieve our Lord to see his children judging one another like they do!
Today, the things in life that matter the most to me would be that I loved as Jesus instructed me to love and to help those that were less fortunate than me. To see others as he would see them and act accordingly.

I hate titles...moderate. conservative. liberal. ultra con and on and on...
I don't even like the church signs that say Apostolic reminds me too much of the Catholic church that is called Apostolic in Brazil. I really don't like the word Pentecostal either too many things come under that heading...
Raul Jr likes Apostolic so he has Apostolic this and Apostolic that...

I have often wondered how those who: gossip about, spread rumors about, have hate in their hearts toward, refuse to speak to when paths cross, disfellowship, because of differences in opinion when it comes to "standards", justify themselves when (or if) they actually read the Bible, and how they can ignore verse after verse on loving your brother. My only conclusion is that they honestly believe that if your interpretation of biblical "standards" is different from theirs, you are not a brother. This makes me very sad. Why do we do this? Why is it so hard to give each other the freedom to have differences of opinion? Why is it so important to be "right"?

He tells us not to compare ourselves among ourselves (if we want to be wise).
Some wolves come in sheep's clothing and some sheep can look like goats until you examine them carefully. Sometimes goats can even look a like sheep - especially when they are babies.

Yeah, I want to get the christian part doen first before worrying about being a con, lob, mod or whatever. Only two kinds of believers in the bible, those walking in the spirit and those walking after the flesh.

I have long felt there is a need to emphasize what the bible emphasizes, and it is not happening everywhere.
Again, Col 3 shows us what to emphasize. Not the touch not, taste not, handle not spirit of law. But flesh always finds it easier to concentrate on things flesh can relate to, and put a religious cloke over it all.
