Car trouble and Wal Mart!!!

Roomie and I took his car to wal-mart yesterday for an oil change. When we went back to get the car the service dude said "...we didn't touch the car because we heard a strange noise when we started it.." Then he tells us that the car is over-filled with oil.
I checked the motor oil two weeks ago, and it was 1 quart low. I did not replace the quart.
We went to start the car and it made a lot of noise, the car shook, and then it turned off.
We went back into Wal-Mart and spoke with the customer service manager. She then talked to the Assistant Manager. We then talked to the Assistant Manager.
He said "they didn't touch your car... we are not a car lot, if your vehicle is still here after a week, it will be towed."

Looks like another law-suit....

My unsolicited and free advice is that you forget about suing WalMart unless you can prove they put oil in your car. Look at the oil filter and see if it looks new. If you don't have proof, remove the oil filter pour out the oil in it and replace it and drive the car home.

Do you think the problem is because of excess oil??

If you have to much oil it will "hydraulic" and basically ruin your engine.

Tow or push it to another mechanics place and get it checked out.

I agree that unless you have a few million dollars we are not aware of I would not attempt to sue Wal Mart.

I don't think you coudl find an attorney to take the job on commission because the chances of winning or even getting a settlement are slim to none.

I think the advice is good to check and see if there is a new oil filter in the car as a clue as to whether they really touched it or not.

I am not a mechanic but if it was overfilled by a quart or two I think it would smoke but I am not sure it would be making loud noises, shaking, etc.

A female relative of mine recently "guessed" that her oil was a little low so she brilliantly just poured two quarts in it!!!!! The car smoked like the dickens and the check engine light came on. She had a mechanically minded friend check it out and when he found out what she had done he drained the extra oil out and the car was fine.

Some Wal-marts are negligent in the TLE areas.

wal mart is not the place to have your car serviced or maintained.....and forget about having your tires replaced if something goes wrong...

wal mart, IMO, is just wrong on so many levels

it is NOT the sam walton vision of walmart
IMO

I know too... I used to work there. :D

It's disappointing to see what goes on in management from behind the scenes and called "LOSS PREVENTION". After seeing some of the things they did with defective returns-- in order to put them back on the shelves to sell again-- I could no longer work there. It helped that hubby was ready for me to quit and stay home again too. ;)

another good reason to WATCH what they do with your car..not leave and come back

You all are scaring me because we have been taking our car to walmart for oil changes and tires for the past 5 years and have had no problems. In fact one time they messed up something on my husbands vehicle while changing the tire and they fixed it at no extra charge. Don't know if we just have a good walmart of it we just haven't seen the bad yet. I hope we don't but this thread makes me leary to conitnue on!!!

I also take our car's there for oil changes and recently bought some tires with no problems. Maybe this is just an isolated case, even some well known dealership service dept's mess up sometimes....... I hope :ignore

My husband has always taken our vehicles to Wal-Mart for tires and oil changes. We have never had any problems.

CC1 03-19-2007 09:35 AM

I have had my oil changed at Wal Mart for many, many years with no incidents.

I think horror stories of drain plugs not put back in or tightened, etc happen from time to time with any company that changes oil. You just have to pray that you are not the one in a million.

I have been the one in a million just not a walmart. The plug wasn't put back in or something happened and my rear end blew. The company did repair my vehicle.

berkeley 03-19-2007 11:07 AM

Aight.... our mechanic thinks they drained the oil... forgot about it.. started the car... heard the noise... refilled it with oil.... parked the car... and decided to say "we didn't touch it.." :)

I'd be checking into legal options-- and see if there's a way to get the tape of what went on in the TLE during the time the car was supposed to be there.

well, the issues I've had at Wal-Mart could happen anywhere, from the quick lube place on the corner to the dealership....

You just have to a careful, informed consumer with anything you purchase or have serviced. Keep records and dont be afraid to speak up if something isnt right.

I wouldnt stop doing business at your local Wal-Mart based on our issues - no two establishments are the same, unless the issues we have are b/c of corporate policies and not a poor workforce....

I personally will not do business at our local walmart for auto maintenance or tires - it was a bad experience that others in our area have had. But again, I think it's b/c they have lousy customer service and they do poor work....

so does the Mercedes dealer around here..

yk?
