I Would Have Been Proud Of Her Regardless ...

... with all she's accomplished.

But it's official: my little girl is valedictorian of the Newton (Tx) High School class of 2008.

That's awesome! I have a daughter well on her way to earning those kinds of honors. She was recently chosen as student of the month, got to go to a dinner where they gave her an award, and also won a basketball shooting contest!

Congrats to you proud papa and she's off to Tulane? Bet she's not going to just learn how to make Sophie Newcomb pottery? :toofunny

That's quite an interesting story, Larry.

I don't guess she'll get a chance to do anything "Newcomb" since the "women's college" was dissolved in 2006.

Newcomb as a degree-granting entity while being a part of Tulane was emulated by other partnerships with "women's colleges" like Harvard and Radcliffe.

Sophie Newcomb's heirs have gone to court in an attempt to prevent Newcomb College from being dissolved.

Be interesting to see how it plays out.

She wants to major in business though I'd rather see her in Pre-law or Pre-med. Tulane's Freeman School of Business is rated one of the ten best business schools in the world so she'll get a good education.

No, Tim, I didn't know about that turn of events. Did Katrina have anything to do with that?

I bid on some "Newcomb pottery" at auction a few years ago, but was unsure about the value. After some research later, I found out it would have been a very good investment.

I've seen your daughter's picture. Lovely girl! I know you're proud and have every right to be so. My daughter was class valedictorian also and has excelled to this day. I have two sons of which I am very proud but there's nothing like a daughter.
