Need Diet Help

I am on a 1500 calorie diet, I have to eat 6 small meals a day, no white bread or white sugar.

I need some ideas on how to achieve this.

Yesterday was my first day and I just couldn't get 6 meals in.

I had a slimfast for first meal at 7:00 am.
walked my 30 minutes
1 1/2 wedges at 9:15 (didn't like the taste of the orange)
small salad with lettuce, turkey lunch meat sliced thin, and a dabble of cheese and dressing at 1:00 (was late getting back from church)
small apple at 3:00
stewed okra and tomatoes at 4:00
3 peanut butter and wheat crackers at 5:00

That was it. Can't have anything after 7:30.

I need some good better rounded meals that stay in my calorie count. Which means no more than 250 calories per meal and this includes the snacking.

Can you eat Smart Ones or Lean Cuisine? They always have the calories and fat grams listed on them. Smart Ones (By Weight Watchers) were on sale this week at Kroger for $2.00.

Yes I can.

I have my husband on the same diet. I just need to plan a days meal. :(

Well, today I'm on the "Colonoscopy Diet" - yuck!!! I had to drink a bottle of Magnesium Citrate last night, which tastes like grape flavored battery acid. Seriously!! Today all I can have is jello and liquids. They told me I can drain chicken noodle soup and drink the broth in it. Can't wait for that for lunch. LOL! Then tonight I have to drink a gallon of this other yucky stuff plus all day today, I have to drink 16 oz. of something every hour. I will be floating by nighttime. I was up all night running to the potty. Can't imagine what tonight will be like.

Procedure is at 8:30 AM tomorrow.

Just thought I'd make you feel a little better about your diet. LOLOL!

Goodness. I have had that procedure done twice. I don't remember having to do all of that. They are wanting me to have it done again since is has been more than two years. I said no thanks. :)

I'm not looking forward to it tomorrow, but everyone says that today is the worst part - that the procedure itself is not a big deal. I made sure I didn't get a doctor assigned who goes to our church though. LOL! That's always my big fear. I hope I don't know the nurses either.

I totally understand that!

Are they going to put you asleep?

I have been on every diet known to man! One thing that has helped me - I bought a food scale that figures how many calories- when you weigh the food. For snacks- I use one ounce of nuts- about 170 calories- quick and filling. Or the pre cut piece of low fat cheese- 90 calories. I bought some Turkey steaks wrapped in bacon at Sam's that are good and 110 calories. I used them when in a pinch for meals with veggies. I will also grill- indoor grill- a boneless, skinless chicken breast for several meals during the week. Another tip- I use- I like ranch dressing - not the low fat- so I add a little water to the bottle. For italian dressing - I take most of the oil out of the bottle before I use it with a turkey baster. Another tip I use is- for salads- I keep a can of rinsed kidney beans in the fridge- and use 1/4 cup on my salads. They are better for you than eggs and give the salad a creamy texture like eggs. Just a few tips I use. I hope this helps.

Yes it helps a lot.

How much water to you put in your dressing?

1 cup of pecans 752 calories!

I guess when they said you could have nuts they didn't mean pecans!

Which I have and love. :(

From what I understand, it's "asleep" like when I had my heart cath - not totally out, because they told me I talked to them through the whole procedure. Which is another scary thought. LOL! Good thing I don't have any deep dark secrets.

Just drank my liquid for 10 AM. :spit

Chicken breasts and seafood are always good for getting some protein in. And not too high calorie.

I'm doing chicken strips unbreaded for lunch.

I will have to see what kind of seafood I can get that I like that is NOT fried. :)

Re: Need Diet Help

I only had 581 calories yesterday.

I was way under my quota.

Didn't realize I had eaten so few calories.

I need to work on that. :)

So far today I have come up with this:
7:30 Slimfast 180 calories

9:30 Oatmeal 130

12:00 4 Chicken strips grilled 104 calories, green beans 1 cup 40 cal, honey glazed carrots 1 cup 140 calories, lite peach fruit cup 50 cal. =282 calories

3:00 apple 36.9 calories, boiled egg 80 calories = 116.9

5:00 Hamburger pattie, 145 calories, mashed potato 190 calorie, green beans ½ cup 20 = 355

7:00

I don't want my last meal to be to high, yet I want get to eat again for 12 hours so I want something to last. Trying to figure that out. I have 436 calories to spend.

Have you checked out Sparkpeople.com? It's really cool. Tons of great resources. They have a daily food tracker where you put in what you eat, it figures up the calories and other nutritional things, and keeps a running tally for you. It can also help with your meal planning. Good message boards, too.

Best of all, it's FREE.

Yes I was just there. I can't seem to find calories of some of things I was looking for. I have had to search the web to find what I need.

A lot of the meals are just things we don't eat. ;)

Re: Need Diet Help

Cook canned green beans in either chicken broth or beef broth (after you've drained the beans). Add some onion powder and sometimes I add a little sugar, but not always. Then let them cook for a few hours. They are awesome!!! This is the only way we eat green beans anymore. The broth is 98% fat free, so they are very low fat.

Have you tried the new sweetener called Truvia? It's all natural and is SO good!

Re: Need Diet Help

I put about 1/2 cup of water to a bottle of dressing. More will make it too watery. Light Done Right is the best tasting light ranch dressing in my opinion. But I use Kens Ranch because it has less carbs. I use the South Beach Diet mix of Planters Nuts and you are only allowed 1 ounce. That is about 14 nuts!!!!! But they are filling and satisfying. Have you tried the online diet sites. I like My-calorie-counter- It sets up a journal for you that will count your calories, carbs, and other stuff and will let you journal your activity and convert it into calories. Journaling is very important to staying on track.

Re: Need Diet Help

I usually add Splenda to my veggies- I love cabbage cooked with 1/2 slice of bacon, onion, and cabbage- no water, just cover and let it cook- I add a pack of Splenda half way through- Very good and filling.
You can try boiled shrimp or steamed shrimp in a salad. Salads and Soups are your friend! Think about eating things that have volume but not many calories. Also I keep sugar free Jello and a tub of cool whip in my fridge at all times. If your sweet tooth kicks in it is a low cal go to dish. You can put fruit in it if you are not worried about carbs. Also fruit salad- Lots of fresh fruit with a little low fat yogurt or sour cream as a dressing.

That sounds good. I will have to check the calorie count.

I am going to be under my count again today, I suppose that is better than being over.

I could not eat all of my dinner, so I will add part of that back for tonight. I only could eat half of that.

Volume of food has never been my issue. Wrong foods, like cheese and dairy has not been my friend.

Plus my metabolism is just extremely low. That is another reason I have to eat so often to keep it going. :)

That sounds good also. Although, I can't do the sugarfree jello, I'm allergic to aspertane. So far I am ok with Splenda.

Buy the Truvia - it's the only one that's all natural, made from stevia.

I have heard of stevia.

My neighbor was telling me this morning she found an organic sugar. Less calories. ???

Truvia is brand new, I think. It has zero calories and tastes like real sugar, but it's the only non calorie one that is all natural, so it's harmless. It takes a few packets for me to think something is sweet enough, but it tastes more like real sugar. I use it in cereal and oatmeal all the time now.

That does not sound fun at all! I don't know if I could do it-

But the procedure is definitely preventative medicine-better to do it now than to find something later.
