Lou Engle and TheCall 2010
After reading this short AFF thread, and this one too…. I have some questions.
Has anybody been to any recent TheCall rallies? I know there was one in Houston in January, and there is one coming up in Sacramento. I also know that there is a 40-day Daniel Fast happening right now for students on college campuses all over the nation (March 1 thru April 9). I'm curious about what takes place at the conferences, and also about the theology behind Lou Engle, TheCall, the International House of Prayer (IHOP), etc. Although I was raised Oneness Pentecostal (UPC), I have very little knowledge of or experience with charismatic or "Third Wave" Pentecostalism. Some people connect IHOP with the Latter Rain movement of the '50s, but IHOP has officially denied any previous ties with the LRM. Some of the IHOP doctrines I'm curious about are: (1) the manifest sons of God theology, (2) Joel's army, (3) the Tabernacle of David, etc. See this link. Please enlighten me! I want to know more! http://www.thecall.com/ http://www.ihop.org/ http://www.facebook.com/thecall?ref=mf#!/thecall?v=wall |
Re: Lou Engle and TheCall 2010
As I have only eaten at IHOP through the years I will be unable to help you but I am sure somebody in the AFF family has the answers.

Re: Lou Engle and TheCall 2010
I've been loosely involved with this movement through Peter Wagner, Mike Bickle, Rick Joyner, Paul Cain.
I'm not familiar with the specific doctrines you mentioned, but I think there is a "Kingdom Now" philosophy which is kind of a foundation for what they do. I've not personally seen any bad fruit from their efforts and quite the contrary in the lives of people who have been to the IHOP. Actually, there is an IHOP near me in Cleveland. I haven't been there, but I know folks who have and they have been blessed. :D |

Re: Lou Engle and TheCall 2010
IHOP is a Charismatic Church. They are Trinitarian as to God. Tho I am firmly Oneness I have a lot of respect for them. They teach the sermon on the mount. They teach the post trib rapture. They teach the fear of God. They believe in personal holiness. They have been blessed with some of the most anointed worship leaders ever.
I have been watching their revival meetings for several months now. I am amazed that NONE of the leaders of the so called "Latter Rain" movements have been in attendance there. I hope that does not change in the sense it could do damage to the IHOP group itself. I have personally seen them baptize thus: In the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost I baptize you into the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. |

Re: Lou Engle and TheCall 2010
I have been to the Call 2007 in Nasvhille. It was amazing! It must have been 95 degrees, and there were thousands of young people there, dancing before the Lord, worshipping for hours on end - and all this after an extended fast. There was a lot of public repentance by leaders - for abortion, racial issues, etc. Lou Engle was in charge of it, but through the hours, it was led by many other people.
The worship was incredible - I think it was Kim Walker. Their worship is intensely passionate and personal. I have a lot of respect for Lou Engle and what he is doing in our country. As far as theology - I'm not sure what all he believes, but there was nothing propigated at the Call that would have been controversial. Just powerful praise & worship and prayer all day long. |

BTW, this morning my family and I worshipped at James River Assembly (AOG) in Ozark, Missouri. It was the first time I had ever attended a charismatic service. We've been out of town (in Missouri) all week, and wanted to go to church somewhere. The worship service was quite different from what I'm used to, because they had strobe lights and impressive multimedia effects the whole service (although IBC Music Fest [UPC] in Indianapolis is not too different ;) ) . The church was huge with youth and children's centers, a Starbucks, a large bookstore, an auditorium seating about 5,000 people. And because of multiple services and campuses, they said they are expecting attendance of 15,000 on Easter Sunday. Quite an experience. Not quite sure the megachurch model is for me, though. LOL http://jamesriver.org/ But anyway, back to the thread topic.... What exactly is the "Kingdom Now" philosophy? |
Re: Lou Engle and TheCall 2010
My kids were at a Call Rally@ Washington DC. For 12 hours they were @ the Washington Mall with thousands of other kids in intercessory prayer for this nation. I don't know if he has the same setup from town to town, but I highly reccommend you check it out. That weekend changed my children's life.

Sorry I was wrong about the worship leader. It was Misty Edwards. I get those two mixed up - I love them both.

I am watching IHOP tonight. One of their leaders Wes Hall I believe is his name said without water baptism you are not born again. Good to see them come into this truth.

As far as the "Latter Rain" involvement, Lou Engle worked very closely with Paul Cain who was a part of William Branham's Voice of Healing org. Cain admitted to "weaknesses" in the areas of homosexuality and alcoholism and stepped down for a time a few years back before being "restored." The core Kansas City group doesn't appear to accept that Cain has been completely restored. They appear to be a fervent group which learns and grows. I don't think you could ask much more from folks. |

I don't get out much ,so I really don't know anything about IHOP.

Re: Lou Engle and TheCall 2010
Misty is a good example for todays young disciples. Her times of fasting and prayer are an encouragement to many. What I like about her music is it contains the whole spectrum of the gospel. Many today only like "positive and encouraging" songs.
While I find her music both of these you find not only the love and worship for Jesus Christ but also lots of teaching on discipleship and holiness. She is one of a very few that sings warnings of judgment to come. |
