Summer Farm Update and other stuff...
Howdy from Texas!
I took an internet sabbatical during plowing/planting, calving, kidding, clearing and fencing, and hatching season...but now have a minute to catch my breath and catch up with ya'll! I hand raised 10 new doe goatlings, 3 bottle calf heifers, freshened a new milk cow, grew up 22 geese hatchlings and an uncountable number of baby chicks, and trained a new Livestock Guardian puppy while on hiatus so it was a very productive time. Oh and processed 21,000 pounds of corn, butchered a hog and put up 24 tons of hay. I had a rough go of it for a while with bronchitis, then pneumonia and lastly a leg injury that I have not healed yet from falling through some rotten deck boards and getting what amounts to a crush injury of my left calf. Since I already have a plate and screws in my right ankle I'm pretty gimpy right now and kind of laid up... So I thought this would be a great time to visit for some tea and sympathy :) And I know that a picture is worth a thousand words so here are pics! New chicks! http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s...kiepics003.jpg New calves: http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s...ndstuff005.jpg Honey harvest: http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s...m/IMG_0217.jpg http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s...m/IMG_0796.jpg http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s...20Farm/001.jpg |

Re: Summer Farm Update and other stuff...
I just had my first taste of raw goat milk,
un-influenced by the presence of a ram, (which somehow makes all the diff) prolly gonna buy a share. Ty for that. |
Re: Summer Farm Update and other stuff...
I think I hate you... crush injury and all.
Seriously that takes me back to my childhood.... Im sorry to hear of your illnesses and injuries. Praying you get better fast! |
Re: Summer Farm Update and other stuff...
Praying you heal quickly.
|
Re: Summer Farm Update and other stuff...
Glad to see you're back T2W! :)
Love reading your posts and seeing your farm life photos! Praying your leg heals quickly!! |
Re: Summer Farm Update and other stuff...
Thanks for the well wishes! I think that grief and respiratory issues go hand in hand sometimes... I lost mom in March and got sick in April... and it just lingered forever. Several trips to the doc and tons of meds did little but over time I am better and left with only the broken rib from coughing as a painful memory... and the leg, which was just a moment of stupid I'll be paying for the next couple of months.
I've missed you all ;) |
Re: Summer Farm Update and other stuff...
Thanks for the update! We have missed you around here! Sounds like you have been very busy!

Re: Summer Farm Update and other stuff...
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
I made my own maple syrup this year! At first, I thought your honey was maple syrup! |

Since it is not possible to produce it on the farm I order mine from Dil's in Ohio by the gallon. Lovely stuff! I would love to find someone to barter honey with. The pic is just what my friend was picking up to take to the farmers market. We actually harvested 20 gallons!! :happydance |
Re: Summer Farm Update and other stuff...
Ya shoulda got some colloidal silver to help speed your recovery.
Great picts! We have a honey farm a few miles from us that I buy raw honey from. Mmmmm...it's so good. Hey...how far are you from Beeville? |
Re: Summer Farm Update and other stuff...
Since the high temps hit 105+ everyday we haven't been outside much. In effect this is our Winter. All I do is water stuff daily to keep it living until things start cooling down in September. :)

Re: Summer Farm Update and other stuff...
I've been wondering where you've been lately. So glad to see you back here! Welcome home! Nice pics, by the way. I loved the one of the calves. For some reason, that one made me chuckle.

Re: Summer Farm Update and other stuff...
If I hadn't seen it myself I would not have believed it.
Hubby is diabetic and got his fingers mangled under a lawn mower blade. Diabetics do not heal well. I kept the wound clean and put CS on it often and it healed in 4 days. Not something that ever happened for my diabetic husband before. And certainly not something some antibiotic ointment ever did for him. |
Re: Summer Farm Update and other stuff...
I'm using Arnica gel on the leg... can't take NSAIDS... long story about burning up my stomach after my 20 ft fall and big hardware installation in the other leg... Also soaking in the tub with aspirin in the water. Had a Zpack and 10 days of Levaquin for the respiratory stuff and 2 Medrol dose packs... The rib was taped...drove me nutso so I cut myself out of it...
|
Re: Summer Farm Update and other stuff...
Zpak and levaquin and medrol. You must have been really really sick. I'm so sorry. Summer pneumonia seems to be worse for some reason than seasonal pneumonia. Both makes one feel miserable but for some reason summer sickness is harder to heal from.

"Colloidal silver cures anything they want it to."
I have it on pretty good authority that a guy saved his leg from amputation that way... "Ha ha! Zombie eh?" (insert quote from "Trillion Dollar Conspiracy" here) |
Re: Summer Farm Update and other stuff...
I personally know a guy who literally has turned purple (he is Caucasian, and looks blue-black or like a purplish color) from taking too much colloidal silver.... Makes me kinda scared to use it, although I think he drank the stuff like water I think.

The CS being made now has smaller particles and more effective when it get next to viruses and bacteria. Your acquaintance is overdoing it. |

Re: Summer Farm Update and other stuff...
I only take it when I start to feel sick. I nebulize it when I get a sore throat. It has to be the kind of CS that you can use in the eye, the ear and in the sinuses.
Flu, bronchitis, colds. I don't bother with it for stomach upsets. I use something totally different for that. Not all CS is equal. :) |
