Something I've Noticed in Conservative Camps...
The Apple is never far from the tree..
Their Children don't seem to leave Dad & Mom... I know of a church where the whole family who are now adults all live in a compound like setting... Bishop.... Pastor (SIL) &Wife (Daughter)... Sister&Husband(SIL) and SIL of Pastor's Wife all live within 300ft of each others...with Homes all facing the other.. Is this common?? Other locations SIL Slated to become Pastor... or Son taking the reins... How common is this across the country?? |

I have recently heard that the grandson will be marrying and moving into the basement 'apartment' of the elder. I'm sure he's been slated to be the up-and-coming assistant pastor. :thumbsup |
I intend to buy several acres of land here where I pastor and build a small house on part of it for my two children to start out in. I pray that they never get too far away.
My grandparents raised me and when I married we lived nest door to them for 11 years until we went into home mission. |
Some of my kids live with us on church land plus some of our church people..
Other kids on the other side of Brazil. If you stay together as a family and it is God's will I think it is beautiful. Several of our kids are in the south that is God's will for them, another is moving to the jungle away from here and that is God's will for him and his family... |

There's some in Indiana similar to that.

Some times a local church is considered a family business and the idea is to keep the money in the family.

They do it for a few reasons . . . 1) to ensure they continue to receive offerings from the church 2) to make sure they keep their legacy 3) mo money, mo money 4) control |

I had a great great uncle who had 7 children. He WAS'NT APOSTOLIC, but hard shell Baptist. He owned a lot of land. He gave each child a portion of land, his house sat right in the middle and his children lived all around him. He said"I can go out on the porch and holler and have all my kids and gran kids here in a minute" |

I understand it may have been common back in the day. But it makes me think of Waco, Fred Phelps and other wacky "close" families. |

:hanky Keep to the right in a Straightline |
is this vastly different than the rest of America?
I dont live close to my parents but my dads mom and dad had 4 of their 5 children living within a mile of them most of their lives. (my grand parents were neither Pentecostal nor ministry). My inlaws live next door to my MIL's parents. I know many people, especially small town or country folk that live very close to their family. (I wish I did) who are no where near being in any form of ministry. I live within a mile of one of my sisters and less than 5 from another. the three of us were upset when our baby sister moved 15 miles away. |

I am with Whole Hearted on this one. if there is good work and the different families can thrive, then I think it is wonderful that they are close. If I could find the kind of work I do, and live close to my parents, I would move in a heartbeat. |

:heeheehee Sorry, friend. I can't keep a straightface, but I do keep a Straightline |
I don't see where this type of behavior would be an inherently conservative trait.
It would be my guess that you might find this type of situation in any particular "camp". |

I don't think it's a conservative trait necessarily. It's a trait of parents that want to administer influence and little bit of control.

cheap land..
I have friends in southern Indiana who live all on one road...when the kids married- they moved on the road- when the grandkids married, they too moved on the road...LOL Grandpa is pastor, sons in laws are leaders in the church, and sons also.
Grandpa gave each child a plot of his acreage when they married. Doesn't come any cheaper than THAT. *smile* They are a close-knit bunch who honor their parents, and work like cheap labor from sun up till sun down. Bout the only thing I can say is- I wish I was one of the kids....LOL |

God love him... the older I get the more I realize I got his controlling ways... lol I am working at prying one finger off at a time.. doing much better than I used to. I have a 17 and 16 year old that does not have driver's permits...let alone license... I don't know if it is controlling behavior or over protectiveness... I recognize it though.. I will probably be this way until they marry... (God help the men they date) then I hope I can give a sigh of some relief...however, most people tell me I won't. Our family has stayed close though.. all of my siblings live within one mile of each other... and the other one is moving back but only about 30 min away right now. Strong family ties keep kids close to home... and I have to say that I don't think that is a bad thing... |

I don't think that's necessarily a trait that is exclusive to Conservative Apostolic People. I come from a small town. Many, many of the people I went to school with have stayed here or near here. In our family my mother lives 3 blocks away from me. I have a brother and a sister who both live within 1/2 mile (on the other side of town), a sister who lives in the next town over (10 miles) and a brother who lives one town over from her (making him 15 miles from us). Lots of my friends I went to school with are in the same situation.
And not one of them even know about the Apostolic faith. Sometimes it just comes from being from a small, close-knit community. |
Thank the Lord for children who follow the vision...I do know there is another side and have seen some put in kids not called but thank the Lord for close families..
