For Wandy Rayne
Randy,
I watched a "prepper" show here a while back. Some of those people are nuts! But anyway, I've decided I must be a mild form of prepper. I am not waiting for a cataclysmic earthquake or anything like that but, given the financial system, and looking forward to the uncertain future of all things financial, I guess I try to be a bit of a financial prepper in my own way. The first way that that comes out is in my husband and I trying to build a couple of businesses. We find the working world to be very demanding and stressful and it would be nice to work for ourselves as long as the income is there. And it looks like it can be if we do this right. There is no true SAFE route......only safer or less safe ones. So, what are your preppeing inclincations and why? And for the rest of you, what are you doing to prepare for the future? Anything? Are you just doing 401K and hoping for the best? Or anything else? |
Re: For Randy Wayne
We watch Doomsday Preppers every week, even though the majority of people now featured are, shall we say, on the wacky side. Did you catch the last episode featuring Hawaii Guy? Before that was the infamous "Greta" episode where the lady of the house (a typical hippie type) constantly spoke to Greta who was warning her of the massive coming tidal waves! Most fans of the show agree that one or both of these episodes represents the shows "jumping the shark" moment(s).

Re: For Randy Wayne
We believe it is always good to be prepared for the unknown. We have prepared some food storage. And because we live in an area with abundant sources of water, we really don't need to worry about storing water.
It is hard to know what to plan for, when it is the unknown. That is why I believe trusting in the Lord is also a very important part of planning for the future, and listening to his voice, and trusting Him to tell us what to prepare. We have a friend who recently bought a large amount of wheat, and a wheat grinder, because the Lord impressed him to do it. So, who knows what lies ahead, although we do know that the financial situation of our country is in a shambles, and it would behoove us all to at least have several weeks worth of food in case of a national emergency of any kind. |
Re: For Randy Wayne
Sprinkled throughout are some real people with genuinely good idea's for being prepared. One family happens to live just a few miles from us in Tempe and was featured on season 1. They converted their outdoor swimming pool into a Tilapia pond and between a garden, small flock of chickens, and the fish, can literally provide for 98-99% of their own food, all from a very small backyard.

Of course besides food I am also stock piling things like ammo (and guns), rechargeable batteries and a couple of solar panels capable of charging them, several walkie talkies as well as a small HAM radio, and MANY ways of starting fires. |

It is VERY hard to have a garden here in the north. You need a greenhouse. I hope to get one for this summer. I did put up a LOT of vegetables last summer that we bought at a local produce stand for next to nothing. Makes me wonder if gardening here is worth all the trouble, when I can get such great veggies down the street and can them. Have you ever tried dehydrating? I was listening to a lady speak about the fact that with dehydration that you keep about 80% of the nutrients, while in canning, you lose about 80% of the nutrients! It is just that dehydrating is so time consuming, which is why we haven't tried it. |

Re: For Randy Wayne
I saw one youtube episode where a family stored a massive amount of food and medicine. The woman and her daughter are diabetic and she had a massive amount of insulin stored also.
They had firearms in case people showed up at their door to take what they had prepped all these years. This was a true reality show though. It turned out that the enemy was not 'out there'. The enemy was each other. :heeheehee They got divorced. The judge gave him the land and house, she got all the prepped items. She only had to go and get it from the land, which he was guarding with the guns! Did it do them any good? I'd say it did for the man. |
Re: For Randy Wayne
One of the thing that irritates me about the show is that each featured prepper starts with "I am preparing for......", then they go into their preps, and finally end their segment with "Experts generally agree that the possibility of <fill in the blank> is unlikely." I guess that is fine for some of the more outlandish things that some are worrying about, but when it comes to financial collapse and/or hyper inflation, I could care less what their "experts" say, it is a certainty. The only question is when.

Re: For Randy Wayne
I would get on the show IF I was allowed to start off with "I am preparing the imminent threat of our Sun going nova!"

I'm also looking at installing a small solar panel system on our shed which can power a small DC powered fridge. |

If the sun ever were to blow up in a super nova, wouldn't that be an awesome sight to see before all the lights go out?

This is the weirdest thing... last night some friends were gathered in our home, and the chem trails were part of our discussion! I am interested to see what the video says. I think basically it comes down to eating as healthy as we possibly can, and praying a blessing over our food asking the Lord to bless it to our bodies in spite of all the evidence around us, that everything we eat, breathe, and drink is polluted with chemicals of one sort or another! |

Weather can stop an army in its tracks, and the Nazis were working on weather control as fast as they were trying to build the atomic bomb. They lost the race, and we picked up the baton. Now, it doesn't matter what you or I think about it, or what we are going to do about it. There is money to be made on a higher level. You and I are just cogs in the machine, and fleas on a bigger dog. People make these documentaries with noble ideals, and really want to get the news out to the huddled masses, but the huddled masses are too busy complaining about Calvinism Vs Arianism, Vs Molinism, while watching "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," and drinking Red Bull. We are in a Brave New world, and there is money to be made by people who are not on Internet Forums. :heeheehee |

Re: For Randy Wayne
Randy Wayne is right to store food for himself and his family. At one time it was law for this country to have a reserve supply of food for the citizens here. Then political winds changed and our leaders "in their wisdom" gave all our food reserves away to foreign countries mainly.
Some people berate americans for being obese...as if they eat too much. Fact is, many americans have to eat food that has no nutritional value because they have made the price of good whole foods to be more expensive than foods that cost more to process than to pick off the tree without processing. What's up with that? Americans are obese because they need nutrition to keep their bodies slim and fit. http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/money...d-supply_N.htm |

I watched a documentary on Ayn Rand last night. Fascinating! I have never read her books but I am intrigued!
