Re: Pentecostal Movies
Like a movie where a family is Pentecostal and they go on vacation, have a holiday get together, overcomes a tragedy. Lot's of Christian movies about everybody but Pentecostals. Like we are not normal or something. It is like we are invisible when it comes to movies, we don't even exist.
Documentaries are interesting to. When have you seen a fair documentary about Pentecostals? Oh, no movies where Pentecostals play with snakes, play the banjo or are dating their near kin. |

Boy I hadn't thought of The Cross And The Switchblade in a long time.
|
Well, Pentecostals don't believe in movies, so that's why you haven't seen any positive movie about them.

Re: Pentecostal Movies
You know, I'd never thought about why there is no major movie out there about the UPCI or Apostolic churches. There are certainly movies to cover probably every other kind of religion out there. Interesting question. Certainly, there are many Christian movies, with mostly Baptist overtones.
I really can't think of any mainstream movie about the typical UPCI/Apostolic jean-skirt wearing, uncut hair, no makeup wearing ladies, and normal dressing men... to my knowledge anyway. |
Re: Pentecostal Movies
A TV series, not a movie, but it's about Oneness Pentecostals:

Re: Pentecostal Movies
The snake handlers are not a true representation of the thousands of oneness, Apostolic, or UPCI people though.

Taking any one scripture, and using it as a basis, and a foundation for all you do, is folly.

My point being is that early Pentecostals were not afraid to use the new media of radio. We should spread the message through movies, internet or anything else that comes along. |

I loved when Robert Duvall and went Apostle on that guy. You know when you go Apostle on somebody you take them out of the church service and beat up on them outside. :lol:toofunny:ursofunny |

It featured a lot of unsuspecting "real people", and one scene stands out in my memory. Borat was talking with the head honcho at a rodeo, and when he used his traditional greeting on him, a kiss on the cheek, the rodeo guy says not to do that here, or people will get the idea that you're.... he makes a limp wrist gesture. Borat is shocked, and says something like "in my country, we execute!" The poor fellow falls into the trap and says "yeah, we're tryin' to get that here, too." Yep. This guy wants homosexuality to be a capital offense here in the U.S. and A. Sigh. Oh, sorry, maybe some of you AFFers agree! :winkgrin |
Re: Pentecostal Movies
I started another thread on this issue a few days ago. You can find it here.

Re: Pentecostal Movies
Cross and the switchblade was based on an AOG preacher David Wilkerson. One of the characters, George Beninate, became a UPC preacher. .

"Marjoe"? Oops, no. Not positive. "Jesus Camp"? Uh. Probably not. "Hell House"? Definitely not. Sorry. ;)

Re: Pentecostal Movies
Maybe they'll make a movie based on AFF. Maybe George Clooney will be "Timmy". :heeheehee

Re: Pentecostal Movies
Getting back to the original topic posted by D4Life... we watched a movie about Dr. Ben Carson, called Gifted Hands. It was an AWESOME movie! Highly recommend! I think the thing that most impressed me about the movie was his mother, and the role she played, despite her own personal difficulties and struggles, to push Ben to be the doctor he became.
It is a great family movie, and will bless and encourage anyone with a family struggling to raise them in the midst of a difficult world, and demonstrates that courage, love, and faith really can make the difference, and turn the tide in an otherwise terrible situation. |

I would like to read his book. He hasn't said if he is running for President or not, but he certainly has a lot to offer this country, from what I've heard.
