It's Either You or Me
The following quote is from another thread where the topic of personal protection came up. Rather than continue the discussion there, I thought it would be better to start a separate thread on personal protection. Where do you stand on having firearms for personal protection? If you don't believe in owning guns, how far should we as Christians go in protecting our families from physical harm?
Quote:
I take it this means you have disconnected the air bags in your car, don't use your seatbelts, keep your windows and doors unlocked at all times, don't have an alarm system in your house, and have disconnected the smoke detectors in your house, correct? These are all things in place to protect your life, but you don't need them because you have the faith it takes, right? God is going to protect you from dying in a car accident, someone breaking into your home and stealing everything you own, and your house will never catch fire and take your life because God is never going to allow anything to ever hurt you? God couldn't stop one of His own disciples from cutting off someone's ear right in His presence, but He's going to step in and stop some whacko intent on killing someone who's a Christian because they have some scriptures to throw at him while being attacked. Yeah, it makes perfect sense. |

No health insurance and no job. No need for money if God will supply all your needs, right?

Re: It's Either You or Me
Rico, you are not ridiculing me, but God's Word.
(But then this wouldn't be the first time, would it?) It never ceases to amaze me the length some will go to discredit the Word of God when it doesn't agree with their ideas and lifestyle. 2 Peter 3:16 16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. KJV Carry on. |

It is one thing to trust the Gun, it is quite another to trust in God. Mat 26:51 And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear. Mat 26:52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. Mat 26:53 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? I think this is what OP is saying. God can provide a hedge of protection. |

Rico, Last year I went to camp meeting, usually when I travel I always take a firearm. Well, on a Thursday night I had my Glock laying on my bed, and I fell asleep. I awoke around 2AM to a bunch of females yelling, which were entering their hotel room upstairs. I thought nothing of it, but looked to my side and my Glock was no longer there. I jumped out of my bed and threw off the covers and my Glock wasn't found anywhere. I panicked and looked a the door, I thought to myself somebody must of came into my hotel room while I was sleeping and stole it. I then looked across the room to the table and saw my travel bag. I walked to the bag, opened it and my Glock was at the very bottom. I then heard God say "I'll protect you." I felt convicted, unloaded my Glock, apologized to God and went back to sleep. Boy was I scared! |

This is ALMOST blasphemy, because it would seem to say that God failed the first martyr Steven and the long line of Apostolics that were killed thereafter. See what happens in a rush to "prove a point" that is unscriptual. No God does not always choose to save us from the hand of our enemy, but there is a heaven waiting for those that are ready. Heb 11:36-40 36 And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: 37 They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; 38(Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. 39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: 40 God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
