Salary Transparency is Coming
Is this a secular thing only? Will the churches and non-profits follow suit? Should they?
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/21/fa...o_interstitial “I believe the momentum behind salary transparency is really beginning to build,” said Traci Fenton, the chief executive of WorldBlu in Austin, Tex., which coaches companies on the creation of more “democratic workplaces,” and which practices what it preaches. The 11 employees at WorldBlu, most of whom work on contract, all know what one another are paid. Openness about company ledgers “will become the norm,” Ms. Fenton predicts, “even if people come to it reluctantly. If people are paid what they are worth, there is no reason for people to feel uncomfortable about sharing salary information.” |
Re: Salary Transparency is Coming
Interesting. I do think that good work should be rewarded. I don't agree with everyone who is doing the job getting the same pay.
I wouldn't necessarily want our salary broadcast to everyone, but then I guess I would feel differently if everyone else's was made known too. Our employees are paid according to level of education/experience, longevity, faithfulness, and many other factors. Eddie sets all the salaries except his own; the deacons set that. |

Re: Salary Transparency is Coming
Here is a dirty little secret that everyone suspects but can never get a confession on...
In much of specialty retail, like appliances and home furnishings, a pretty woman is much more valuable than a man... and a less than pretty woman (I'm trying to be polite folks) can be much less valuable than a man. |
Re: Salary Transparency is Coming
it will cause more problems if all salaries are public, and just raise class envy to a new level, my opinion, i dont get a salary i earn all the money i make so it dont float with us, lol

Re: Salary Transparency is Coming
I guess because my salary was always public knowledge, I never had a problem with anyone knowing what I made. I never tied my "worth" to what I made- good thing- because they don't pay school teachers much in Louisiana!

Re: Salary Transparency is Coming
I always thought church's and pastors would kinda want it public.
