I've never read any of Watchman Nee's books. I had one once on the Song of Solomon and just couldn't get into it.

I always enjoyed his writings from the first one I read. His main line of thought was denial of self so the Lord can work in our lives.

A hallmark of his teachings was the thought of Christ's words concerning His need to fall into the ground and die, in order to not abide alone. He then proceeded to explain that we each must experience this. A seed was in view, representing our lives. And as the seed has a shell that decays and breaks away so as to allow the inner life to come forth, our flesh and self life must give way in order for Christ's life within to rise forth.

He had an awesome teaching ministry that rocked China in the very years that led up to and included the communist take-over by Mao Tse Tung. Nee did not believe in underground church. He felt the church should stand up and preach the truth in the face of evil. He was imprisoned and wrote much of his works from prison.

I heard from one biography that his tongue was cut out and he continued to write. His writings came to the USA in the sixties and seventies, and got hold of hundreds of thousands of believers.

THE RELEASE OF THE SPIRIT is a classic, as well as his writings on Romans 5 through 7, called THE NORMAL CHRISTIAN LIFE. His THE SPIRITUAL MAN in three volumes, later printed in one volume, was one of the first books I read as a Christian, and made the bible come absolutely alive to me!

No. That would be Witness Lee. Witness Lee was a cult leader who sat under Nee, but strayed from Nee's very biblical teachings.
