The way this thread is going, it makes me think that some of you want your wives dressed in the plainest clothing imaginable.
That is SO out of line with scripture, where God spoke at length about adorning His bride with all kinds of beautiful clothing and jewelry. In the OT, when Abraham's servant when to find Rebekah, he took her jewelry as a gift (specifically bracelets and a ring for her "face"); it wasn't for her to adorn herself later in private with Isaac; it was a gift that he placed upon her right then and there. There are no scriptures in the law (that I'm aware) in which God forbade women from wearing rings or bracelets or belts or necklaces.
This one is interesting (from the GNB):
"Jeremiah 2:32 Does a young woman forget her jewelry, or a bride her wedding dress? But my people have forgotten me for more days than can be counted."
A young woman [maid in the KJV] wearing jewelry is as normal as a bride wearing a wedding dress.
Bottom line: If GOD adorns His "bride" with extraneous gifts and decorations, then there is no man alive who should hesitate to adorn his bride in the same way. And yes, that is a completely self-serving (but 100% correct) public service announcement.

I guess it all goes back to motive, anything can used carnally with a carnal mind. I work with mostly women and seen women who wear it nicely done with taking away their face, while some over board looking like hussies.
My would never be open to it because she been so long without it, but she doesn't need it either, she stioll can pass for being in her twenties.

D4T - this simply isn't true. Women are attracted to pretty things. I like to put vases of fresh flowers all over the house, and when buying rainboots, I automatically choose colorful polka dots over plain green or black. When I'm dressing myself, I choose clothes with soft textures in pretty colors, and I love to wear colorful scarves twisted around my neck. I don't wear scarves because I think I'm ugly anymore than I put flowers on my table because I think my table's ugly.

I find nothing more beautiful than a woman adorned with humility, wisdom, honor and the beauty God gave her.
All the paint in the world can't beat that. And that, my dear friend, is as fair as it gets.

Typical juxtaposition between "paint" and good character.

True, TS, but you have to remember that they may not INTEND to look like hussies. LOL!!! Some people just don't have good taste--which is evident even among a group of women without adornment. Some women know how to dress themselves, and others simply can't figure it out.

Some do want to adorned to look "sexy" motive changes things and believe changes how we do things

I agree with you. Unfortunately, unlike God, we can't easily determine motive and intent just by observing a person. We can assume things and draw conclusions, but we should withhold judgment almost 100% of the time. I would be more likely to draw conclusions when an appearance is paired with a matching behavior.
If someone is heavily made up and they are flirting with every male in the vicinity, then I may assume matching motives for the appearance and flirtation.
Hmmmmm....is flirting a sin if you're single?

This is true with makeup or without. Girls who don't wear makeup can also have unholy motives.
The most promiscuous female I've ever known in my life didn't wear makeup. But the men picked up on her spirit in a flash.... by looking in her eyes.
As with everything, we get down to the bottom line - what's in our spirits. Which is why the Bible focuses so much on our hearts.

Re: Adornment!!
And before someone says that it's what's in your heart that causes women to wear makeup , I'll say once again that most women wear makeup for the same reason that they fix their hair nicely, wear pretty clothing, pretty shoes, decorate their homes, etc. They love pretty things. Not because they're trying to attract a man.

If your going to be consistent, it should be! (Not that I think it is in the slightest.)
I understand the motives behind a no-makeup stance if one come at it from a modesty principle (even though I still do not agree with that either), but I understand it. What bothers me to no end is the pure utter complete hypocrisy of someone proudly proclaiming "no paint on OUR women!" and then dressing to the hilt at every district, regional, and camp meeting attended. Spending an hour making sure every single strand of hair is in perfect order -while " our women don't wear paint!" continues to be the mantra.

That's what always bothered me, too. The inconsistency.
Same with jewelry - a wedding ring will send you to hell because we don't believe in adornment. Oh, really?
