Same with jewelry - a wedding ring will send you to hell because we don't believe in adornment. Oh, really?

It is not hard to find images of these over-the-top hairstyles and the only reason I do not post them is because someone here would probably recognize someone in the pictures. It would just happen.
It's the perfect example of staying true to the technical law ("our women don't wear makeup!") while completely ignoring the spirit of it.

It is. And a good example of why 'rules' shouldn't replace principles. Because everyone begins following the rules, but violate the very principles that are behind the rules.

It's a legalistic mentality that is hard-wired in the thought processes. As long as they keep the letter of the law they're alright. No no no!! In the O.T. I couldn't kill my brother. In the new covenant if I hate my brother I am guilty of his death! The spirit of the law is all about principle.

Indeed.
There is a group who holds to every little law and rule they can place on people.
There is a group that puts away anything that is outside their personal desires.
Both miss the point of principle in action.

Re: Adornment!!
First I want to say I have enjoyed reading through this and believe some very good points have been made. Secondly, I have found that the older I get the more frequently I wear makeup. I have no intentions of trying to attract men or turn them on, I am just trying to cover blemishes and old age spots on my face. I also try to look presentable and pulled together and appropriate for my age and profession. There is no sinful or evil alternative motive in what I do and my makeup is very minimal. I was brought up to have moderation in all things and that is a principle I still follow to this day. I do not believe in doing things to the extent that it draws attention to myself.

To me there is a differnece between what your doing and wearing red/purple lipstick, bright green eye makeup, bedroom eyes, shaved eyebrows with black pen marking, etc....

And neckties - an adornment that serves no purpose whatsoever.
