What is "the prayer of faith"

The bible says if there is sickness, you should call for the elders of the church to annoint you with oil and pray "the prayer of faith".

In my background (more "denominational" you would say), praying for someone meant intervening with God for their needs (in words) - as specifically as possible.

When folks come the altar for healing at our apostolic church, they raise their hands and the elders come over, annoint them, lay hands on them, and scream at the top of their lungs. Some scream words, or "jesus", or speak in tongues, but several just scream (like a horror movie or something).

Forgive my ignorance of Apostolic tradition, but where in the bible does this constitute praying?

What is the "prayer of faith?"

Thanks!

Re: What is "the prayer of faith"

I like how Hebrews 11 says, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report."

And James calling for the "elders" to pray the "prayer of faith", speaks of living and experience in and with faith.

If someone prays for me, I certainly want them to have "faith", to pray with "faith".

Re: What is "the prayer of faith"

Jesus taught us to pray like he prayed. It looks like this:

11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. Mark 11:24

When we pray we are supposed to believe we have received the answer. Then it will happen.

The one that works, of course.

Re: What is "the prayer of faith"

I understand and beleive the concept of "praying in faith" and do that..what i don't get is the method. Jesus said "when you pray say, our father........."

He gave a coherant oral prayer asking god for specific things. I dont feel like anyone is actually praying for me if all they do is put there hand on my head and scream in my face at the top of their lungs.

I dont get it
