Cracklins, Do You Eatum, and How?

Anyone here eat those nasty things?

I like them! They certainly aren't like the homemade ones we had as a kid, but I still enjoy them.

Anyone make a dish using them? I have only had them as treats.

NOT very often (as in 1x/year or less)...and only as a treat or snack. I love them. Especially the homemade ones.

They are fantastic. I had them homemade and never had any from a market.

Yes, it's called Chicharones (spelling)...I love eating them but I hate the dish. It's a soup and the cracklins get all soggy

I like them! Nasty? Are you confusing cracklins with chitlins?? LOL

Cracklins are wonderful, fried up fresh and equally wonderful
cooked in a pone of cornbread! Yum!

Re: Cracklins, Do You Eatum, and How?

Loved 'em as a kid, on the days when we would kill a hog or two we would fry them up in lard in a huge pot over an open fire. Boy, they were good.

Speaking of recipes, my mom used to make "cracklin cornbread" by mixing them into the batter, but she'd cut off the hard rinds first.

You can serve them with biscuits, cornbread, or grits. I don't care much for them.
