We are Ford people, so don't throw in other options.
We already have a Taurus and an F-150. We are thinking of an Explorer or an Escape. Don't want anything too big. I was reading a couple of negatives on the Escape - bad performance of rear drum brakes and the back seats don't recline and are hard to fold down.
I was reading that handling things on-line is a great way to start as it lets the dealer know you are an on-line shopper. My husband isn't big about doing something like that. So, maybe I could do it on the sly?

Just "boost" a vehicle that you like. No haggling. No paper work. Just happy care free driving...

Re: Negotiating a new car deal - how's it done?
My hubby is a Ford only guy also.
We have had the Lincoln we bought as a program car with nearly 30,000 miles and less than a year old. Bought it same year of vehicle and really enjoyed it.
Had a Tarus bought from Carmax and sold it to a neighbor down the street when he got a company car...Chrysler...he is NOT a Chrysler man. It is a 300 and says it looks like a Mafia car. lol
I have a Mountaineer that I love.
I am with you PO on the leather seat. Don't know why anyone would want anything else in a car. Cleans up so well.
As to color...personally I don't like silver, even though my husband last two cars have been silver. I prefer white for the south, but like the looks of the red and really loved the teal when it was "the" color, back in the day.
My car has a little less than 100,000 miles and our Crown Vic we had over 200,000 miles before Tropical Storm Francis totalled it out.
The have quit making the Mountaineer which I really like.

The best vehicles we ever had were Toyotas. You would have to shoot them to kill them.

I thought "boost" meant to add a turbo.

My SIL always loved the Honda. He sold his Acura and bought a Chevy. Poor thing!

*Sigh* I know. I love leather. He's always hated our Towncar because of the leather interior. And really, it is always so hot and you always have to be treating and taking care of the leather. In a way, it is kind of a pain.
We drove a loaded Explorer Limited today - hugh sigh - I loved it, but he didn't like it at all. Of course, he didn't like the leather. He said when he was driving it was like looking through a tunnel. He didn't feel comfortable in it and I felt totally comfortable. This is turning out not to be as fun as I thought it would be. LOL! The last two times we chose what we wanted right away and now we aren't sure.

Re: Negotiating a new car deal - how's it done?
Okay, update on the plan in case someone wants the information too.
I talked to a friend who is a finance manager. This is what he said we need to do:
Offer $500 under the Invoice minus the rebates plus delivery if we need one to be delivered. Although, it is better to go and pick it up. They should show us the Invoice, but if they don't, I can get the VIN number, call him and he will give me the Invoice. He said to stand firm on that offer.
He said it is very unlikely we could get 20% off the sticker price.
