Re: IF God is Love...

Conflicting love \hate hyperbole's or just plain ole conflicting scripture?.......

Luk 6:27 But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,

Luk 19:27 But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

ok here is the lexicon definitions
1.to detest
2.to love less
3.pursue with hatred

so if we go to the meaning i can insert in luke 6:27 do good to them that hate ( detest ) you

so comming from the definitions used by the lexicon the word miseo fits in this way

μισέω
to hate
μισέω
to detest (especially to persecute); by extension, to love lessDerivation: from a primary μῖσος (hatred);
KJV Usage: hate(-ful).
Thayer:1) to hate, pursue with hatred, detest
2) to be hated, detested
Vine's Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words•Hate, Hateful, Hater, Hatred

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

μισέω
miseō
mis-eh'-o
From a primary word μῖσος misos (hatred); to detest (especially to persecute); by extension to love less

again it depends on the context being used

Some always give unbelief the benefit of the doubt. The thing to always remember is that maybe , just maybe, our initial perception of what may be contradiction is lacking certain understanding. And we may have to give the benefit of the doubt to thousands of years of faithful saints who trust the written word provided, and take a few more additional looks in case we missed something.

I see there are three views in the "hate" camps concerning Jesus saying to hate your family. 1) It means what it says, hate means to hate, as God hated the deeds of the Nicoliatans. 2) It's explained away by hyperbole. 3) It's a wrong word to be used in today's world. It should be changed to "love less".

Anyway, I was attempting to get back to the God is Love topic of the thread. I was actually speaking of the actions toward your enemies. You love them and kill them or was this just hyperbole?

Could be. Did Jesus choose any HUNTERS to be His disciples? NO!! He choose FISHERMEN.

He didn't say you'd be HUNTERS of men, did HE?????

I rest my case.

He chose a tax collector also, and a zealot.

Please quote the verse for me
