Re: Would you rat out your kids?

I do not have children, but if I did I would march them down to the cop shop and make them tell the truth if it was serious.

Re: Would you rat out your kids?

How could we expect our children to be honest with us if we are not honest ourselves? Yes, I would rat them out if they did something that needed to be ratted out. Having said that tho, I would make it clear to them that while I was turning them in, I was also going to stand by them for whatever happened. I would NOT make excuses for them. And I would not even ask for special privileges. But I would be there to support them in any way I possibly could.

A friend of mine recently called the sheriff because her son was underage and was drunk. He got a citation for it. And was furious with her. I did not hesitate to support her in her handling of this situation. She knew that she might have saved him from killing himself or someone else by driving drunk. And maybe she can keep him from becoming a serious alcoholic if he is not already and if he is, maybe this will be what it takes to make him realize that he needs help.

"A Lake Charles couple will spend years behind bars for lying to police about their teenage son's involvement in a drive-by shooting that killed a 14-year-old girl in 2009.

On Monday, Judge Clayton Davis sentenced Nina Lambert Newton, 44, to 10 years in prison for obstructing justice and being an accessory after the fact to first-degree murder of Alexus Rankins, The American Press reported.

...Prosecutor Cynthia Killingsworth said both parents conspired to make up a story and lied to police...."

Depends on the nature of the crime.

I am more prone to help them leave the country or to help them with an alibi and I would do what I could to keep from lying.

I won't rush out to turn them in, but I wouldn't lie for them either.

Re: Would you rat out your kids?

I might not help to convict them, but I would not lie for them. I might refuse to testify against them.
