Correct, yes, except that this spirit will not ever be God for the simple reason that it is a spirit, which your post seems to not acknowledge the existence of? But it is simply a things...center, the image you get in your mind when I say...recycling, for instance. "Recycling" might invoke quite a few images to you, from the drudgery of actually doing recycling, to the warm fuzzy feeling evoked in making the planet a better place, but whatever the specific image that it brings to your mind, you now have its spirit, right there in your brain. I might add that this was carefully chosen, as this should not be a frivolous exercise, but I didn't want to involve the other variables that testing aspects of Scripture might involve. I'm realizing that it's almost foreign to me again, haven't had to test a spirit in, wow, over a year, so prolly two, hmm, but the sequence I did go through in testing spirits left a powerful impression that I haven't forgotten...ah, you have to test spirits when you do new things or accept new beliefs, and I'm not doing anything new since then in those areas ouch lol.
A things spirit is just its spiritual manifestation, that part that you may see differently from me, but nonetheless exists solely as a symbol in your mind, which you may test, or interrogate actually, and frankly in other, freaky ways than just testing, but nevermind. If this has not addressed your question, please say.
They are just the things that the Scripture quoted point to, also? You see them as embodied...angels, or something, in this verse, personalities prolly, when they are just spirits.

I'm discussing your world, not mine.
Does God ever speak to you? If not, then my question doesn't really apply to your experience. But perhaps you have advice for others, to whom God does speak. (They say.) How can they know it really is God (or not)?

The exact same way, by mentally asking the spirit whom God may surely have sent if Christ is lord, in "testing" anyway, and nevermind interrogation for now. This scenario is how I became familiar with this; wondering if it really was God talking to me, and wanting verification. Kind of difficult to explain your perceptions here once you have come out the other side of this, as it alters your reality in kind of a funny way, when you can be assured like this; you'll discover that God actually doesn't talk to anyone directly, I'm pretty sure, but that isn't really important here, you can label a spirit "God" if you want, but you'll stop once you discover you have mis-labelled a couple spirits, lol, and realize that even the ones that satisfy your interrog...that "pass your test" (which might slowly expand in directions, um, unforseen) are not God, but...messengers.
This may strike some as an affront; whatdoyoumean, God isn't talking to me? type stuff, but see that a message from your President even, who imo is a complete wanker, no offense, would almost surely come via an emissary, and would still be a msg from the Prez.
Not quite sure about the "your world, not mine" thing...but I'll assume that is to apply to our currently different definitions of "Spirit," which can also have a personality, but don't have to, as most assume. When we hear "spirit," we automatically just add either wings or a pitchfork, lol.
I guess I better add that in some cases your "answer" won't be entirely clear, in which case examine your true motives, and if you use this or "casting lots" as a parlor game, you will get stung.

Something in your head says "Kill your children"? Ignore it. Please! No need to imagine a conversation with the voice in your head, with a fool-proof test. There is no fool-proof test! You think someone who gets these wacked-out "messages" would get an answer other than "Yes"? You think that would prove the message really came from God? Puhlease!
And don't bother with that other, very popular test: does it line up with God's Word? Two problems: 1) Things that "line up" don't necessarily come from God. 2) Pretty much anything can be made to line up, in exactly the same way that "apparent" contradictions in the Bible can be reconciled. ("Kill your children" is very easy to line up, e.g.) This is an utterly useless test.

And I'd like to suggest once again that [I

I submit the statement that since Jesus recognizes Satan to be the ruler of this world, that the same group of people that Satan used to rule back during Jesus' day are the descendants of that group who are still in power today.

Useless? I don't think so. The New Testament Church is quite clear about what God's people may or may not do.
That is why the Holy Spirit is given to people who seek the Lord.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Only those who do not study what is expected of Christians end up being gullible about those in authority, money and other aspects of life.
And...I'm sorry, but many pastors will not get down into current events and warn the people about how we are being deceived by Satan in our world today.

Amen, AYR. I noted that this is not for frivolous, or public, use.

Amen to that, too; they cannot but be anyone else. Please vote your conscience.
