I watched someone preach using mainly this story, resulting in many being baptised and being filled with the Holy Ghost, and it bothered me a little for a couple of reasons:

I'm not sure I buy the story
I'm wondering why people need to be scared to the altar
I'm wondering why preaching the Love of God would not be better
or, if preaching from the word of God w/o using this wierd story would be better

can't argue the results though, scary wierd story got the job done . . .

It actually was more scary then a Dexter episode, and that is saying a lot.

The story is false. No one is burning in hell now. They will at the judgment. Until then they sleep the sleep of death as all humanity does.

Hell fire should be preached to everyone saved or sinner. It is part of the message of Christ. The Church would be a far better place if the wrath of God were faitfully preached. Christ himself was not ashamed of it. He used it as a motivator to get people saved as we should following his example.

Ok we will be accurate. Everyone who dies now saint or sinner goes to hades....the grave. At the resurrection the saved will rise to meet Christ. The wicked dead will be judged and be cast into Gehenna which is generally known as the lake of fire.
