So you should use God's name only for really important things. OK. Like what? Examples? And some examples of unimportant things would be nice, too.
Well, I wouldn't feel comfortable codifying this for anyone, it's a personal thing...but personally I try to make sure that if I utter or print the Name, it is always to edify, and not just in passing.
I have on occasion began to praise/worship God and bless his name to make up for it. Sometimes that gets the point across. It's a good reminder to worship.

Using God's name in vain is saying God is doing or saying something that He actually is not saying nor doing at all. When someone mentions God's name and then speaks something as though he is doing it, God is not actually doing it which makes the statement one using His name in vain.
