Ordination Service Today

I go to a church in Hamilton, Ohio which is called The Hamilton Dream Center. Our web site is http://www.hamiltondreamcenter.org/

Today we had an ordination service. The lady in the attached picture, Kim Russo, was ordained as a minister. I am proud to be one of the Elders who signed her ordination certificate and who participated in the laying on of hands and prayer for her ordination.

The picture shows her saying a few words before the ordination ceremony.

She and her husband operate a ministry called Offerings or Holy Grounds Cafe. They do a lot of ministering to street people, feeding them, clothing them, praying with them, etc. Their web site is

Kim's husband, Felix, is an ordained Baptist minister.
He preached this morning after the ordination.

Re: Ordination Service Today

This is a picture of the ordination.

I am the person on the left sitting in the walker. I am an elder in the church. I'm currently having some knee problems and am using a walker.
The person next to me is Debbie. She is one of the founding members of the church and one of the childrens ministry workers.
Kim is standing in the center and we are laying hands on her and praying for her.
The person behind Kim is Doug. You can only see part of a shoulder and not his face. He is ordained through our church but is not there very often. He is known as "the Cowboy Preacher" and spends his summers preaching at rodeos and other gatherings.
The person wearing the green top and standing in front of Kim and praying is our Pastor's wife. Her name is also Kim.
The man in the green jacked holding a Bible is Bill, another elder in the church.
The man on the right whose face is obscured is our Pastor, Wendell.

Re: Ordination Service Today

another picture after the laying on of hands and prayer.

The woman on the left is Gail. She is the wife of Bill, an elder in the church, who is wearing the green jacket and holding a Bible.
Next is Debbie, seen in an earlier picture.
Then me sitting in the seat in my walker. I can't stand for more than a few minutes and this walker not only provides mobility but a place to sit down so I can get off my feet.
Next is Doug the Cowboy Preacher.
Kim Russo, the lady ordained today, is pretty well hidden.
Standing next to Kim Russo, you can only see his face is her husband, Felix, who preached today.
The lady hugging Kim Russo is our Pastor's wife whose name is also Kim.
Then Bill, an elder in the church.
And standing on the step is our Pastor, Wendell.

Sam, I especially like the homeless and out reach ministry your church has. Not much of any around my region.

Re: Ordination Service Today

Our church has an extensive outreach to the homeless. We feed about 75 of them breakfast each Sunday morning at a city park. Our work with them has resulted in a significant number of them attending church. Sometimes with interesting results!

This morning I watched a young guy who was with an older guy open a bag of tobacco and roll a cigarette in the middle of the sermon! I was pretty astounded and poised to escort him out if he had tried to light up but once he got it rolled he discreetly got up and slipped outside to smoke it.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

.
Our church feeds over 100 grade school kids plus about 50 high school kids every Wednesday night. Wednesday night Super Kidz Church is our main service. Very few of these children have family members who attend the church.

On Sunday mornings, a couple uses our church basement to feed breakfast to whoever shows up --eggs, sausages, etc. The couple with some helpers do it on their own so Betty (the wife) requires the 6-10 homeless guys who show up to attend our 9:30 Bible Class. Others, kids and families, eat breakfast and then come to morning service at 10:30.

We have had several teenagers saved and baptized as a result of our Wednesday youth meetings.

In the fall we give away backpacks with school supplies and later in the fall we give away coats. We also give out turkeys and groceries for Thanksgiving and adopt families for Christmas. We are currently working on a house with several apartments in it a few doors down from the church where people can live until they have accumulated enough money for deposit and rent and for utilities at an apartment.

Re: Ordination Service Today

Those are great ministries and helps my feelings towards Apostolic churches.

The last church I was a member of did not do hardly any outreach. The ladies auxiliary had a dinner at church once a month. The ladies cooked pot luck and then they sold it back to church members. Those who could not afford to buy could eat for free, but nobody wanted to be singled out for that. It was mainly a fund raiser for the church.

I would love to be a part of an outreach ministry, either by feeding people or helping the poor in some way. There is not much here.

There is an outreach that is not Apostolic that I am considering helping. I just wish our church systems in this area would do more.
