I don't believe we should pick parts of a verse to apply and throw away the parts we don't want to deal with. A lot of people do that with that scripture.

You are right - I do discount that this scripture has any instruction for believers intentionally taking up poisonous snakes or downing a fifth of strychnine marmalade.

I take it you apply the same principle to section of speaking in tongues and healing the sick and casting out devils. The reason why we have so many denominations is because of selective application of scripture. If I apply your reasoning for the verse in Mark 16, I would think that casting out demons, healing the sick, speaking in tongues should not be done intentionally. The problem is people apply different principles to the part they feel uncomfortable with.

I would reword that. Snake handling is not of God. It is a misintepretation of scripture no doubt. However many snake handlers have the same New Birth experience we teach and live and walk in holiness. I believe there are many who live godly lives, however misled on this one aspect.

The fact snake handling is mentioned in the Bible shows it is of God. You may have a different interpretation. Your understanding is just as valid. Thanks for pointing out it's not a heaven or hell issue. The issue ultimately comes down to we agree to disagree.
