Progressive? In what sense? I visited there for a little while back in 2000 and have peeked in a few times the past few years. I'm not sure what area it's progressive in, but definitely a more familiar, traditional UPC church IMO...

Given that I was raised in that particular area of Garland, I wished I would have known about it/visited before 2000. But, other plans were in the works, and here I am...

I haven't been to North Cities for a while, but they used to be much more conservative than we were. Now I think they are a little less so. Good people over there.

Our previous pastor, Jeff Hennigan is now in a staff position at Mike Hayes' church in Carrollton. Another great church from what I understand.

My take is that they are involved outside the walls of the church. Lots of teaching. I believe the pastor is educated in the area of psychology and may have some type of counseling experience. I think they would be considered liberal by some in terms of standards. Best thing to do is visit.

Re: HELP! Looking for a church.

After much search, visiting for ourselves, and prayer, we have found a home church. We are attending Christian World Church in Richardson. Pastor Hancock and his family are awesome and truly love people. The church is very involved in outreach. The music is great without be insanely loud and overbearing. Love the presence of God in this church.

Good to hear the update... A lot of times people get on here getting recommendations and then it's the last we hear.. Thanks again, and glad you found a home church.

Re: HELP! Looking for a church.

If you want a smaller church, there is a good one in McKinney, just 15 miles north of Plano. I have been there once. I think it is on Davis St. It is UPCI.

I have never understood people who would "want a smaller church". In my mind if a church is near a population base and is still small after a few years something is wrong. Now if it is a new church or in a town of 500 people then I understand.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

I don't post here much, but this thread caught my attention. It seems you come from a pretty traditional oneness Pentecostal church. When I read the articles of faith of your new church this got my attention. It says that, "Following faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, new believers are commanded by the word of God to be baptized in water as public evidence of that faith...". I thought baptism was for the, "remission of sins"? Not stirring the pot, just curious about this. Is this a "three step" church?
And just so noone flames me, I'm not judging, I'm just curious.
