HELP! Looking for a church.

We will be moving to Dallas/Plano, TX area within a few months. We are looking for a really good church. Not interested in any independent churches. Must be solid in Apostolic doctrine of Godhead and Salvation. A good mix of ethnicity within the congregation is preferred. Don't like churches where the services are all about the singing. Want to be fed. Looking for a church that has ministries for Men, Women, Married Couples, Singles, and Youth. We are moving from Baton Rouge, LA where we attend Voice of Pentecost (Pastor Robert Martin), which we love. www.voiceofpentecost.org ALJC churches would be nice or UPCI, but not a must. Quality of the church is more important than organization. Anyone got some recommendations????

My son went to the Garland church while he was in TX. It is a pretty progressive church. Bro. Baxter attends there. My son enjoyed it.

I attend ALC in Plano. We recently welcomed Paul Cook as our pastor, and the church is leaning more conservative than in recent years. Pastor Dan Rigdon still serves as Pastor Emeritus, and the church staff are great people.

I haven't been to North Cities for a while, but they used to be much more conservative than we were. Now I think they are a little less so. Good people over there.

Our previous pastor, Jeff Hennigan is now in a staff position at Mike Hayes' church in Carrollton. Another great church from what I understand.

Very interesting that you say ALC is "leaning more conservative". Is the new pastor going to make the Pastor Emeritus shave his beard? LOL!!

That might explain why the one person I know who went there has left. I don't know them well enough to ask.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

I don't necessary think it's some intentional shift. It's more about the personality and style of Pastor Cook. And no, there won't be any beard shaving parties

Re: HELP! Looking for a church.

Thanks for all the recommendations. We will certainly visit all of them. Thought I saw a post somewhere on here about a minister whose wife was related to Pastor Anthony Mangun in Alexandria, LA. Since we once lived in Alexandria for a short time and attended church at POA, I thought there might be a connection in Dallas as well. Anyone know what I am talking about? Thank you.

Re: HELP! Looking for a church.

If you are looking for a larger church, there is always Dallas First Church pastored by Bro. Tom Foster.

I do not know very much about them anymore. They used to be fairly conservative in dress while a bit more liberal in his taste in music.

Re: HELP! Looking for a church.

Since you have a POA connection you might want to check out the church where AM's daughter and son-in-law are on staff - Mike Hayes (exUPC) Covenant Church.
