Re: Good man with a gun fires & misses!

my view is that some number of teachers in every school, be duely appointed Law Enforcement Officers with all the appropreate training. They would be classroom teachers who were also law enforcement officers.

They would be paid accordingly and recieve ongoing training/education (just as all teachers do now) and be properly compensated for the additional responsiblity.

I do not avocate issuing Glocks to random school teachers.

"It went from 20 to 30 teachers to the more than 700 we have here today. It just exploded with Chris’ involvement," Dalworthington Gardens Police Chief Bill Waybourn told the paper.

On the other hand... Having worked in an acute psyc hospital I have to say that teachers were one of the most oft admitted professions... Now whether they were crazy and then became teachers or teaching made them crazy I am not sure.

1) The gun must be on their person! Having it in a safe is far too much trouble in the event it is actually needed.

2) The gun must NOT have a magazine in it, but rather the magazine must also be on the carriers person, just not in the gun itself.

3) The gun must be a model with a magazine-disconnect feature which prevents it from firing without the mag locked and loaded, even when there is a bullet in the chamber.

While putting a teacher at a tactical disadvantage shout the need arise, the above precautions would guard against the inevitable "gun grabbing" from a young kid trying to be funny, or the occasional gun falling out of its holster, but still having the weapon available (without having to retrieve it from a safe) should a threat appear.
Good ideas. OK, I'll revise my prediction to 5x.

Well, sure, your family members.

LOL! I consider that a compliment!

my dad taught AP calculus.
I have 2 first cousins who were Principles with PhDs (one has passed the other just retired)
I have multiple cousins who are classroom teachers, guidance counselors, high school coaches...

My grandfather was a principle for 39 years.

I also have more than a few country family that look like those wonderful duck commanders!
