Forgiveness questions

Will/Does God forgive someone even if that someone doesn't ask God for forgiveness ? Before you answer consider this:
1- were the people that crucified Christ forgiven when He said "Father forgive them"? they didn't ask for for forgiveness
2- the same thing with Stephen when he was being stoned, they didn't ask for forgiveness
3-if someone stole something from me and later on I decided to forgive them and ask God to forgive them for that but had no contact with them so they didn't know, would they be forgiven? (assuming they hadn't already asked God to forgive them).
If I forgive someone for something are they forgiven by God, wether they want it or not? I mean it seems to me that we are commanded to forgive, no matter what. So would God command us to do something that He Himself would not do?

I believe that we have to think categorically. For example, I might pray that God forgive a person, meaning that I don't want a judgment to come their way. It doesn't mean that they are spiritually forgiven for the deed.
