I usually only buy shampoo and stuff like that on a super deal and then have a back stock in my basement. So, I do have a lot of stuff in the basement along those lines but haven't paid much for it. I like things as close to free as possible.
I guess I need to come shopping with you!

Actually, I tend to do the same things with coupons, and sales, to stock up on things that won't go bad and store them in the basement too.

I've had it about a month. Not having any issues with fruit flies - that is a big plus!!

Re: A Completely Home Grown Meal

Today, we went out and got our potatoes for the winter. There are potato fields around here and the trucks go out and take out a ton of potatoes but people can go in a get some that are left. There are SO many that are left. We get enough to eat on all winter, plus give some to my parents and other relatives. Here they are:

I also found a chicken of the woods today (Yummy!) and some puff balls. Tonight for supper, we are having venison, potatoes we got today and chicken of the woods and sliced garden tomatoes.

Well, we didn't die from mushroom poisoning.

I went out yesterday and found a bunch more puff balls. Wish I would have found more chicken of the woods. That is SO good.

Re: A Completely Home Grown Meal

So awesome that you are able to get in potatoes for the winter! If we lived closer to southern Idaho, I've heard they do the same thing down there, but it is 8 hours from us. I don't know anyone around here who plants massive amounts of potatoes to garner from. Lucky you!

And the mushrooms... how do you cook them? I've seen mushrooms growing around here, but I have no way of knowing whether they're good or bad to eat.

It is a mushroom but looks kind of like chicken when cooked. It is SO good!

Night before last, we had corned venison (hunted by my husband, corned by me) mashed potatoes from the field, and puff ball mushrooms from the woods mixed with okra from the garden. Sorry I didn't get a chance to take pics.

I slice them and cook them in butter or coconut oil with salt and pepper.

I just began harvesting mushrooms last year. I read a couple of books and then ate a teensy bit to see if I would get sick. LOL!
